BBC Studios' Documentary Unit is looking for a Development Researcher, to join the team responsible for producing more than 110 current affairs and arts films on the BBC's hugely successful magazine programme, The One Show. The team are looking for someone with a strong journalistic background, and a proven track record in delivering original stories with flair. Somebody who has an extensive contacts book, can meet deadlines and is resilient. An interest in popular current affairs, entertainment, arts and human interest stories is essential. WHY JOIN THE TEAMUsing sound editorial judgement and journalistic expertise, candidates must be tenacious ideas generators; pitching original ideas and creative treatments every week, and be solution focused and proactive. Ideas must include popular journalism and original factual content, and be achievable against tight deadlines and limited budgets. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:You'll be simplifying complex material, investigating stories, checking factual details, undertaking background research, casting contributors, as well as writing producer and presenter briefs. You will need to be rigorous with fact checking and have experience of writing treatments along with ensuring filmmakers are fully supported in the handover process, once commissioned films are in production. and you will be required to bring stamina and accuracy when working in a high volume, fast turnaround environment.YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEThe team are looking for someone with a strong journalistic background, and a proven track record in delivering original stories with flair. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: * An understanding of the BBC One Show audience, and the skillset to handle complex topics with tact and sensitivity. * You'll understand the BBC's diverse audiences and be passionate about delivering factual content to them. * Strong writing skills and mature editorial judgement. * You will have experience pitching current affairs and arts VT ideas and will have worked at the level of Researcher for more than 6 months. * Evidence of sound editorial judgement is a must, along with the ability to build trust with contributors to help ensure they feel fully supported through the filmmaking process. * You must have proven experience of being able to work collaboratively as part of a strong and effective team, and thrive in a pressurised fast paced environment. DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:An existing understanding of BBC Studios Editorial Policies and guidelines.
