Development Researcher

Bristol

BBC Studios' Factual Entertainment Division has bases in London, Bristol and Cardiff . The team produces a wide breadth of popular content including many of the BBC's most popular brands such as The One Show, Top Gear, Gardener's World, Dragon's Den, Crimewatch Roadshow, Amazing Hotels, Life Beyond the Lobby, Wanted Down Under, Bargain Hunt, Antiques Roadshow, Countryfile and much more. We are seeking a Development Researcher to work in our Bristol base.

You will work closely with Development Leads, Producers and Executive Producers based in Bristol, developing ideas across BBC channels and external broadcasters. Directly reporting to the Development Leads, you will be expected to generate new ideas, stand up and develop existing ideas, participate in brainstorms, research and gather material and write treatments. You will also be expected to take an active interest in shooting taster tapes or accompanying producers on shoots.

Role Responsibility
To support Assistant Producers, Producers and Development Leads, coming up with new ideas and on-screen talent for regular brainstorms, learning how to write and illustrate proposals, analysing current TV hits to understand how they work and why.
To be involved in researching, including the identification of suitable programme contributors, locations and storylines, working closely at all times to the editorial brief of the Producer.
To work effectively to ensure all content is thoroughly researched and meets the BBC's editorial standards.
To generate ideas, participate in brainstorms, write proposals, help produce taster tapes.

Are you the right candidate?
Previous television research experience and an ability to demonstrate a passion for factual television is required. In particular, a drive to learn about factual-entertainment formats, TV commissioning structures and writing up effective research notes and proposals.
Previous experience of using Keynote and editing with Premiere is desirable.
To work effectively to ensure all content is thoroughly researched and meets the BBC's editorial standards.
To be involved in researching, including the identification of suitable programme contributors, locations and storylines, working closely at all times to the editorial brief of the Producer.
An ability to prioritize a conflicting workload efficiently and to maintain standards of accuracy and attention to detail when working to deadlines or changing priorities.
