CALAMITY FILMS - Development Executive Job Spec • Company: Calamity Films Ltd• Job Title: Development Executive• Reports to: Head of Development• Salary: Negotiable based on experience• Start Date: April 2022 Onwards• Contract Type: Permanent• Location: Notting Hill, London• Application Deadline: 5pm on Monday 28th February 2022JOB INTRODUCTIONWe are looking for a Development Executive to join Calamity Films to provide expert editorial feedback and guidance on a wide range of projects in development in both TV and film.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will be a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with previous experience working in a development capacity within Film, Television. You will have demonstrable experience of project assessment and story editing skills with a passion for engaging with creatives.You will have excellent development and written skills, including script notes and experience in preparing and conducting project pitch documents and development material to submit to broadcasters. You will have a good understanding of the domestic and international film and TV market and the ability to identify material with commercial potential.We are very happy to help the ideal candidate learn and grow in the role but good creative instincts, an ability to act on initiative and a proactive, can-do attitude are prerequisites. Responsibilities will include:Employing strong story editing skills on projects in development and production, and where needed providing notes on drafts of scripts.Taking creative meetings either individually or alongside the Head of Development and writing follow up notes from meetings and screenings as needed. Future development: actively seeking out ideas and material for potential development in either film or TV; working with existing talent relationships as well as building new ones with a view to future projects; keeping ahead/up-to-date on new, upcoming and established writers and directors and their work across film, TV, theatre, social media etcSubmissions: maintaining a tracking system for all submissions, as well as writing and viewing samples; providing reader reports where required and/or responding on Calamity's behalf; initiating/developing relationships with the key agents for talent here in the UK.Undertaking research, planning, design and development work as appropriate or as directed by the Head of Development.Assisting with the day-to-day management of Calamity Films' current development slate. Providing administrative support across the slate; duties include helping to organise internal and external meetings, writing notes from meetings when needed and managing development documents and folders.Proficiency with Word, Excel & Final Draft are desirable.About Calamity Films:David Livingstone set up Calamity Films, an independent television and film production company in 2013. His first production was PRIDE (2014) directed by Matthew Warchus and written by Stephen Beresford. Starring Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Andrew Scott, Dominic West and George MacKay. The film received 7 BIFA nominations, 3 BAFTA nominations and a Golden Globe Nomination for Best Film. David won a BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by a British Producer alongside writer Stephen Beresford.Calamity went on to produce JUDY (2019) starring Renée Zellweger as Judy Garland, written by Tom Edge and directed by Rupert Goold. Renée Zellweger won a British Independent Film Award, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild Award, Independent Film Spirit Award, Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading role for her portrayal of Judy. Calamity Films also produced LAST CHRISTMAS (2019), a festive feature for Universal Pictures written by Emma Thompson & Bryony Kimmings and directed by Paul Feig. The film stars Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson. The film has grossed more than $120M across the world and £18M in the UK.Calamity produces the hit comedy drama series BRASSIC for Sky Max & ITV Global co-created by BAFTA-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst and actor Joseph Gilgun. Series One became Sky One's biggest comedy release for 7 years and the third series aired on Sky Max in October 2021 to rave reviews. Post-production is currently underway on Series 4 which will TX later in 2022.
