The Development Executive, Topical Factual & Current Affairs, will be responsible for developing new programmes in the topical factual space and seeing them through to commission with a range of broadcasters.While the role will span the unscripted genre, key areas of focus are series and singles in the topical, documentary, specialist-factual, live, investigative and current affairs space.ResponsibilitiesWorking closely with the Head of Topical Factual and Head of Development to devise new series and singles in the Topical Factual and Current Affairs space.Pitching ideas to commissioning editors in an appealing and dynamic way.Writing compelling proposals for new programmes.Devising, pitching and writing ideas both independently and as part of the development team.Keeping aware and abreast of industry intelligence - to keep up to date with the needs of broadcasters.Developing relationships with agents and talent, both on and off screen.Keep informed of topical issues and anniversaries for specific exploitation through programming.Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety.QualificationsPassion and enthusiasm for devising, pitching and writing-up new programme ideas.Balance creative approach to development with commercial nous and an understanding of the commissioning process.Demonstrable experience in all aspects of the development process: generating ideas, negotiating access, writing proposals, pitching to commissioning editors and securing commissions.Strong contacts in the topical factual and current affairs commissioning world.Deep understanding of the television landscape and the DNA of the major broadcasters, particularly BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.To have a positive and 'can-do' attitude towards work.Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage large projects and multiple stakeholders.Excellent interpersonal skills and a diplomatic approach to building and maintaining relationships.Creative attitude to problem-solving.Hard-working, enthusiastic and creative, with a good sense of humour.Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple tasks.Awareness of Health and Safety requirements.Ability to demonstrate the ITN Productions values - Transparency, Innovation and Collaboration.Hiring Manager : Job TitleHead of Topical ProgrammesEqual Opportunities PolicyThis Job Description identifies the main requirements of the role.
