We are looking for a highly experienced programme maker and manager to become Deputy Editor of Daytime on 5, which includes Jeremy Vine, Storm & Alexis, Matt Allwright and Vanessa. The successful candidate must have first class editorial and leadership skills, along with a real flair for making engaging and entertaining shows. It is a 12 month maternity cover contract, starting April.The Deputy Editor will be responsible for supporting the Editor in implementing the long-term strategy and vision for Daytime on 5, to make our shows the most talked about discussion programmes in Britain. It will involve assisting the Editor in setting the agenda for all four programmes and managing the team. They will also deputise for the Editor when appropriate. The successful candidate will have considerable editorial and production experience, excellent organisation and communication skills, and be brimming with ideas for talking points and guests.The role will also involve being hands on in the planning and production of the shows, and outputting programmes from the gallery.Key Responsibilities Assist the Editor with the day-to-day running of the show and implementing its long-term strategyIdentify talking points and guests for the programmeGenerate production ideas to create memorable studio momentsOutput the programme on a regular basisReact to the kind of stories that will work for the 5 audience - whether it be dealing with the most important issues in Britain in a relevant way, or lighter topics to make us smileReact to breaking newsLead planning meetings and be responsible for long-term contentInput editorially into digital output and help increase the presence of the show onlineSupport the Editor in managing a bright, hungry team tasked with picking the very best guests and discussion topicsSet the highest standards for all content and ensure it is accurate and compliant with the law and relevant regulationsDeputise for the Editor when requiredWork in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safetyKey Requirements Excellent editorial judgementStrong decision making and leadership skillsThe ability to spot talking points that will make engaging and entertaining television for a daytime audienceImagination and flair to bring those talking points to lifeExtremely strong production skillsFirst-class gallery output skillsExperience of managing a team and getting the best out of peopleExperience and understanding of social media across a variety of platformsAwareness and understanding of budget managementA positive attitude to problem-solving and calm under pressureThe highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial materialSolid experience of legal situations and understanding of Ofcom regulations, media law and the ITN Legal Compliance proceduresHighly organised with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple tasksAbility to demonstrate our company values - Transparent, Innovative and Collaborative
