Deputy Content Editor

ITV News is seeking a Deputy Content Editor to work within our award-winning Investigations and Original Journalism Unit. It is a full-time, permanent contract based out of ITN's London office. This is an exciting role working with a dedicated team focused on creating and delivering agenda-setting investigations with impact.

This role is to support ITV News' Head of Investigations and Content Editor for Original Journalism, working also with the wider team and a range of correspondents and reporters.

We are looking for someone with experience of delivering exclusive, impactful journalism who is brimming with ideas and who will stay ahead of the curve and break stories. The successful candidate should have a strong understanding of how to deliver for digital, social, and streaming platforms as well as TV. We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering scoops and uncovering stories that are strongly in the public interest.




Key Responsibilities
Supporting the Head of Investigations and Content Editor for Original Journalism
Pitch, develop and deliver original and exclusive stories that have real impact and that show a deep understanding of the ITV News audience
Conduct forensic research into a wide range of subjects to unearth new information
Skilfully cultivate relationships with key contributors including interviewees and sensitive sources
Organise logistics for and produce on TV shoots
Utilise a wide range of traditional and modern methods for investigations, from in-person fieldwork to digital tools
Use initiative and exercise excellent editorial judgment on legally complex and sensitive stories
Use a variety of digital investigative journalism tools to deliver exclusives e.g. OSINT and data journalism
Use a multi-skilled approach to deliver investigations across all our platforms - eg write web articles, commission graphics, oversee edits for streaming platforms and TV
Be enthusiastic about delivering creative, fresh approaches to newsgathering and embracing new technologies
Generate creative ideas for TV treatments
Develop stories for digital, social, and streaming audiences as well as television viewers, bringing inventive treatments to our digital platforms
Cover big breaking stories and travel at short notice when occasionally required
Be flexible with working hours and days when needed
Juggle competing demands and deliver under pressure

Key Requirements
Experience of delivering original and exclusive stories
Be passionate about original journalism with clear examples of distinctive stories they have originated
Find trusted sources and secure interviewees for investigations
Strong research and investigative journalism skills with the ability to use a wide range of techniques, from in-person fieldwork, to OSINT, to data journalism
Forensic attention to detail and strong organisational skills
Ability to think creatively and use innovative approaches to make progress on challenging stories
Be able to organise logistics for TV shoots and oversee them
Strong multitasking skills with ability to juggle multiple, complex stories at once
Think strategically to maximise the rollout and impact of a story
High-quality editorial judgement and the initiative to work independently or as part of a team
Thorough understanding of legal and ethical issues surrounding broadcast journalism and knowledge of Ofcom guidelines
Consistent and clear communicator with strong teamwork abilities
A strong understanding of ITV News audiences across all platforms
A commitment to creating news coverage that reflects the diversity of Britain's communities
Calm under pressure in all environments and able to adapt to changing situations
Capable of working to tight deadlines
Understanding of the need to be flexible on working times and hours when needed
Using investigative skills on major breaking stories when needed
Willingness to be moved off-brief to cover breaking news events on occasion
