Content Producer

The New Media Unit (NMU) is part of the Government Communication Service (GCS) and sits within the Cabinet Office. The NMU was established in November 2024 with the clear goal to reach, connect and rebuild trust with audiences in the most effective way possible.

Our aim is to provide the public with relevant, useful and authentic content when and where they want to receive it and communicate in an entirely new way.

The Team

Digital Creative and Production - the team covers creative direction and creation across all areas including graphic design, video, photography and in-app content creation. Production covers shoot planning and production, copywriting, publishing and working directly with creators / real life storytellers to produce content that performs natively in your daily social media feeds.

The Role

The Content Producer in the New Media Unit will play a vital role in sourcing compelling stories and case studies, producing and managing engaging campaign content across multiple social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. This role requires a proactive storyteller who can identify unique stories and real-life examples to humanise government messages and connect with diverse UK audiences.

As a Digital Producer, you will manage the end-to-end process for campaign content creation, from identifying story leads to scripting, producing, and publishing. You will work closely with creative teams and stakeholders to ensure all content aligns with government communication goals. Additionally, you will take on copywriting duties, crafting engaging and accessible content to resonate across social platforms.

This role is ideal for a dynamic digital content producer, confident to operate in any environment with a passion for digital storytelling, especially short-form video. This role reports into the Senior Content Producer.

Key Responsibilities:

Identifying and sourcing real-life stories, case studies, and examples that illustrate the impact of government initiatives.
Building and maintaining a network of contacts to provide story leads and background information, ensuring stories align with government messaging.
Producing and high-quality digital campaign content for websites, social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Supporting in the management of the full production workflow, from storyboarding and scripting to filming, editing, and final delivery.
Assisting in the development of platform-optimised content for TikTok and other channels, leveraging trending formats and styles to maximise reach and engagement.
Working with Creative/Strategy teams to adapt production so that stories and content are platform specific , making them engaging and accessible for diverse audiences.
Ensuring all content aligns with government objectives and messaging, is accessible, and speaks directly to the intended audience.
Working with creative, social media, strategy and marketing teams to align story selection and content planning with broader campaign objectives.
Collaborating with stakeholders across government departments to ensure accuracy and consistency in messaging.
Keeping informed on digital and social media trends to incorporate relevant techniques that boost engagement.

Experience / Ability

Essential requirements:

Experience in identifying, sourcing, and developing stories or case studies for digital media.
Ability to humanise complex topics and find engaging angles to connect with audiences.
Proven experience in producing digital content at pace across social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
Strong understanding of social media platforms and best practices for short-form video content.
Familiarity with platform-specific trends, content formats, and audience engagement strategies.
Excellent writing skills, with experience creating concise, engaging scripts for shoots
Strong organisational skills, with experience managing multiple content projects from concept to completion.
Ability to work to tight deadlines and coordinate effectively with teams and stakeholders.
Familiarity with social media analytics and performance metrics and how to apply those learnings to impact shoot outcomes.
Background in communications, journalism, digital media, or a related field.
Desirable

It would also be beneficial if you demonstrate any of the following skills or experience:

Experience in video production and editing, using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.
Additional information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace. Although requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this level of attendance.
