Company Stage Manager

We're looking for a Company Manager to join the team behind our production of Shelagh Delaney's ground-breaking British classic A Taste of Honey for its return to the West End for the first time in 60 years.

Directed by Bijan Sheibani (Barber Shop Chronicles) and designed by Hildegard Bechtler (Antony and Cleopatra), this exciting new staging is a gritty depiction of working-class life in post-war Britain and an exhilarating portrayal of the vulnerabilities and strengths of the female spirit in a deprived and restless world.

The CM manages the day to day running of the production, and looks after the welfare and safety of the company and staff. Full details of the duties and responsibilities can be found in the job description, along with the rehearsal and performance dates.

We're looking for people with extensive Company Stage Manager (or Company Manager and Stage Manager/ Technical Stage Manager) experience on a mid-scale, large-cast production in the West End of London or equivalent, an awareness of current Health & Safety legislation and a solid working knowledge of union agreements.

The successful candidate will have the ability to lead and organise staff, be proactive, energetic and dedicated, with excellent communication and listening skills. They will also be highly organised, with an awareness of the latest techniques and relevant regulations as applied to the preparation and staging of major productions in the West End, and with a demonstrable record in the supervision of productions at the highest artistic and technical level.

Duties and Responsibilities
- To manage the day-to-day running of the production in the West End
- To look after the welfare and safety of the company and staff
- To liaise extensively with the General Management office and Accountants at the National Theatre, ensuring a smooth flow of information between the National and the company and technical/SM team
- To directly manage the Stage Management and technical Teams, the running of all performances of the production, taking responsibility for a stage management plot and covering plots as required
- To control and oversee the running of all performances, ensuring that the agreed and established artistic and technical standards for such productions are maintained at all time
- To work with the Production Manager, Company Manager and Heads of Technical Departments to manage the technical maintenance costs of the Production in rehearsal and while in the West End
- To liaise with the management and technical staff at the venue before and during the run of the production and to support communication between the technical and Stage Management teamand venue staff
- To continually liaise with the Resident Director to ensure the production stays at an excellent standard
- To supervise and arrange extra events such as filming, photo shoots, educational workshops, accessible performances, and any other contextual or publicity events as required.
- To manage the working patterns of all staff in line with the appropriate Union agreements.
- To schedule days off for the technical/SM team as required
- To lead or participate in disciplinary procedures if required
- To sign-off timesheets for theatre staff, cast and band on a weekly basis
- To keep company timesheets and submit payroll information for all company members employed by the National, including cast, stage management and technical staff
- To support the touring company in booking their own accommodation
- To keep and account for all petty cash on a weekly basis and to distribute per-diems and/or subsistence if necessary
- To manage ticket requests for company rate seats from the company, staff and creative team
- To arrange any medical treatments in liaison with General Management
- To assist the General Manager in the management of any rehearsal periods or recasts: to include scheduling staff, supporting the rehearsal room, managing technical periods and understudy rehearsals in collaboration with the Production Manager, as required
- To deal with any general prop and set maintenance that may be required and to be responsible for day to day maintenance of the set and props with the Assistant Stage Manager and Technical Swing
- To manage and be responsible for the health and safety of the company and any persons that may be on stage for or as part of the Production, including local crew in accordance with the Health and Safety policies of the venues and National Theatre
- To carry out all other duties normally associated with the role of Company Stage Manager for the run of a first-class play in the West End of London
- To comply with the various policies of the Producer and each touring venue on Social Media, Equal Opportunities, Harassment, Smoking, Alcohol, Drugs and Health and Safety.
