Cinematic Layout Artist

London

We are looking for a creative and experienced Previs/Layout Artist with a keen eye for Cinematography to work as part of our talented Layout department. The department is responsible for initiating the previsulation stage of projects as well as establishing the assembly of sequences, scenes and shots, laying out the foundation on top of which all other departments can produce some amazing final shot work. Cinematic Layout supports Animation ensuring camera, asset and spatial continuity are accurate throughout pre-production, shoot and post-shoot assembly phases to deliver final Layout scenes upstream. The Layout Dept plays a key role in previs, mocap prep & shot work. Layout Artists work closely with the Director, VFX Supervisor and Editorial to establish composition, timing, and continuity for each shot.

What you will get to do
Hands on work producing Layout & Previs on assigned projects
Consulting on mocap prep/shoot/post assembly and attending shoots when required
Create scenes and shots to follow the storyboard/previs/cinematography
Scene set-up for motion capture shoots
Organise sequences into shots for Animation hand-off
Put the characters in key poses to define their actions and movements in the correct 3D environment
Check the conformity and continuity of the sequences
Effectively execute feedback/notes supplied by Director and Supervisor
Support Department with documentation of workflow practices and tools as they evolve
What you bring
Minimum 3 years Layout / Previs Artist experience
Good knowledge of Cinematography, shot continuity, film history and film codes
Have a good eye for image composition (direction) and good knowledge of cameras
Excellent skills in Maya
An understanding of Unreal 5 and realtime engines is an advantage
Be comfortable within a LINUX / UNIX environment
Must have a willingness to learn new tools
Proven ability to be detail-oriented and to work efficiently within a production environment
Nice to have
Experience working with Motion builder
Knowledge of Houdini & Blender
Basic knowledge of Python and MEL is a plus
