Character Designer - Experienced

Remote / Regional (outside M25) hybrid REMOTE

This role requires the hired candidate to be based in the UK, outside of London (outside the M25).

We are looking for an experienced and creative Character Designer! They will be designing characters based on the style of the project, from rough concept through to final approved artwork. They will be working under the supervision of the Director and Art Director. They will research and explore character through references, and work within the boundaries of a given brief. They are always striving to improve their skills and are happy to support other members of the team.

Day to Day:

Designing the style, appeal and persona of characters in the production based on story requirements and given brief.
Researching and exploring character through reference.
Working as part of a team to interpret assigned concepts and supporting other members of your team when required.
Managing your assets and time efficiently to meet deadlines.
Responding positively to notes and feedback.
About You
Must Have:

Adaptable to different styles of show.
Strong working knowledge of tools and software such as Cintiq, Photoshop or other applicable design software.
Brilliant creative flair.
Strong perspective drawing skills.
Excellent understanding of volumes.
Excellent eye for colours and value structure.
Excellent understanding of human anatomy.
Able to convey emotional and physical traits of a character through exploratory design.
Being a team player, great collaborator and able to take direction from leads and art director.
Creative problem solving.
Bonus Points:

Understanding of how to translate character from 2D to 3D is a positive.
A passion for cinematography or video games.
Knowledge of 3D animation workflow.
You enjoy creative problem solving - you love taking on challenges and finding creative solutions. You don't get flustered easily. If you don't know the answer you'll dig until you find it.
You respond positively to direction and feedback.
You volunteer for new challenges, you care passionately about your work, you are super organised.
You thrive in a studio environment, you can focus on your work in a busy studio. You like to learn new things, and you learn quickly. When things change you can roll with the punches.

Established in London in 2000, the studio has grown to become the largest dedicated CG animation studio in the UK, picking up a shelf full of BAFTAs, an Annie and an Emmy along the way!
