Job DescriptionPurpose of role: Universal Creations is looking for an experienced Casting Technician to work on a variety of interesting projects, ranging from small items like a loaf of bread, to guns all the way up to a boat, and using a wide variety of casting techniques. Your daily task and main responsibility will be to work with a variety of materials such as casting resins, urethane rubbers/plastics, rigid and flexible foams. The successful candidate will join a close-knit and talented team within a Company that has worked with the likes of Marvel, ITV, Disney, and Netflix. You will be working at the Company's workshop located close to Shepperton Studios in Ashford, Middlesex. Role Dimensions:• Reports to Workshop Manager • The main focus of the role is the day-to-day casting of any items for any new projects, assessing which material is to be used, how much is needed and deciding on the most effective approach. • This role would require flexibility in working hours when permitted as after hours and/or weekend work depending on the project could be required. • Assist with and undertake any other duties to help team members when the Company permits. Job requirementsKnowledge, Skills and ExperienceThe successful candidate will:• Have previous experience within a similar role. This is essential.• Have an ability to assess a prop/mould and plan the most effective cast process. • Be familiar with moulds from a range of composite materials such as silicone, fibreglass, wood, and plaster.• Be able to carry out the casting from start to finish with excellent precision and minimum supervision.• Have extensive knowledge in foams and resins as well as the standard casting techniques. • Be confident in using any necessary power tools. • Demonstrate a working understanding of how different foam mixtures can be used to achieve different results.• Monitor stock levels for the casting area and order when necessary. • Demonstrate a high attention to detail and to be able to effectively work to 'right first time' on tasks within a fast-paced environment.• Be able to multi-task, prioritise workload and be willing to assist other team members with additional tasks when the business permits. • Perform tasks safely within a physically demanding role and adhere to the health and safety practices within the workshop. • Update the business systems as and when required. • Be passionate about the arts and/or film and tv industry. • Demonstrate good initiative and listening skills.• Take responsibility for keeping your working area clean.• Desired but not necessary, have experience with mould making, prop making or other transferable skills such as trimming and painting.
