Camera Trainee

London

A paid opportunity to progress from Runner/Driver -> Kit Room Assistant -> Camera Assistant

Starting as a Runner/Driver you will progress from entry-level to Kit Room Assistant on successful completion of your first year. You can then expect to advance over a 2-3 year journey, finishing with the skills and contacts to work in the industry as a Camera Assistant in your own right. The structured learning we'll offer will include the following:

Driving
Runner duties
Cloud based stock system
Basic repairs
Equipment maintenance
Equipment testing
Hire check in
Hire check out
Camera set-up
On set assisting/etiquette
Camera, lens & lighting principles
Our kit room team come from all backgrounds, ranging from formal qualifications in media at undergraduate level, to on-the-job freelance training. Some have had career changes from trade, hospitality or service jobs. There's no universal requirement, what is matters most is that you can evidence a genuine interest, talent and technical ability.We receive a high volume of applications each year. Key indicators to a successful application will be:

Driving Sorry, this is a must. We require 2 years' minimum experience, full manual UK licence and for insurance purposes you will need to be age 21 or above.
A technical interest in film making. This could be supported by a background in photography, personal portfolio or proven in cinematography. Production and general running experience are welcomed but in order to prove suitable for this role you must show attention to detail and a preference for the backroom functions such as equipment maintenance, fault-finding, diagnostics/repair, data inputting or logging, battery changes, cleaning and preparation etc.
Evidence of talent/flair/passion. It is great to hear about applicants' enthusiasm for their work and long-term goals, even if you have limited industry experience - we welcome showreels, credits lists or testimonies from tutors/clients/employers.
Service orientation. Ideally, you can demonstrate successful customer relationships, be it in or outside of the TV industry, providing excellent customer service. Practical experience, common sense and interpersonal skills are highly valuable. Working in hospitality, retail, trades, delivering customer orders, fixing problems, ensuring business continuity.
A general knowledge of the rental industry. A commercial understanding of facilities houses and their role in the TV production process will strengthen your application, even if you do not yet have direct experience of working within one. Your application should present a strong business case for your suitability to the team.

The role is salaried - £20k per annum + overtime
This is a full-time based position based at the Film Store in Earlsfield, London
Monday-Friday, office hours. A shift system will be implemented with occasional flexible/on-callwork, by prior agreement
Required:

Full clean (manual) UK driving licence
Fluent written & verbal English
For insurance purposes, a minimum 2 years' driving experience, age 21 or over
Evidence will be required of your eligibility to work in the UK
