Camera Operators

Birmingham

We are looking for creative camera operators for ongoing regular work with Slinky throughout the year, to help bolster and support our in-house production team. We are looking for energetic, driven people with a keen cinematic eye - who can work under fast-paced filming environments, as well as controlled closed film sets.

You need to be comfortable working on a variety of productions; ranging from promos, through to training videos, corporate videos and commercial shoots for high profile clients (as well as some smaller organisations) across a huge variety of industry sectors. Take a look at a selection of our clients here, and a small selection of our work here.

You will primarily work with our in-house filming equipment, which consists of Canon C100/C200 cameras, with various grip, sound and lighting gear. You would be hired on a 'dry hire' basis (we supply all the filming equipment for you).

You will be expected to set-up and monitor sound, so experience of working with professional XLR microphones (including radio mics), and external recording devices (such as Zoom or Tascam) is essential.

Lighting will be one of the responsibilities of the role and you will be required to set up for various filming areas including interviews and basic promo shoots.

Experience of working with Ronin or Movi Steadicam rigs is desirable but not essential.

You will be required to work as part of our 3-man crew (or bigger crews on occasion), which would normally consist of a Producer/Director, a Camera Operator (yourself) and a Camera Assistant.

You will be expected to supervise the Camera Assistant (where required) and offer help and advice for their professional development (Mentoring).

You will not need to provide your own transport to the filming locations, but you would need to get yourself to Slinky HQ in Digbeth, Birmingham on filming days where the whole crew will travel to the location together. Some start times can be very early in the morning on shoot days.

There will be requirements to travel nationally and internationally for shoots as projects dictate.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Sunday 15 December 2019 (5pm)
INTERVIEWS FOR SHORT-LISTED CANDIDATES: Start of Jan 2020
PROPOSED START DATE: January 2020, then ongoing regular freelance work

IMPORTANT: Applications will only be accepted from candidates who meet ALL of the following criteria:
- You must have at least 2 years experience filming in a professional corporate video environment, filming factual/documentary and commercial type content.
- You must be able to provide at least 5 video examples of factual/corporate content that you have entirely filmed yourself, including some interview sequences.
- Are able to attend an interview at our Birmingham offices at the start of Jan 2020.
- You are based in the Midlands area (near Birmingham) and able to travel independently to Slinky's HQ in Digbeth, Birmingham, on filming days (sometimes arriving very early in the morning) where our crew will set off from.
