Systems engineers are responsible for the resolution of broadcast systems and engineering issues across ITN's technical infrastructure. The role encompasses in depth fault finding and problem-solving along with pro-active systems maintenance. Systems Engineers liaise closely with multiple business departments, third-party suppliers & manufacturers, ensuring a swift resolution of problems. Communication is key and plays a pivotal part in the success of this role, keeping colleagues and the wider business up to date with all Support actions. Key Responsibilities Diagnose faults, taking action to rectify problems within the broadcast infrastructure, including studios and field broadcast systems Support content ingest, editing, production asset management and interaction with other production systems Collect and analyse system information logs where applicable and pass on to appropriate person or manufacturer Support MCR facilities - baseband video, multiple audio standards, IP distribution, routing and traffic Support Studio facilities for example cameras, vision desks, sound consoles, talkback. Liaise with manufacturers in a timely, confident and informed manor Create good working relationship with technical and editorial operators, assisting them in fault diagnosis Support ITN's Technical Projects team and the delivery of their projects Work flexibly on a shift pattern Any other duties as required by your line manager or ITN Key Requirements A degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification would be desirableGood interpersonal skills - must be able to work within a small team in a high-pressure environment A decisive and calm approach Previous experience in a broadcast TV, radio or multimedia environment An understanding of how broadcast television programmes and associated media are produced, stored and delivered An understanding of how complex nonlinear editing is performed Ability to make independent decisions A desire for continued growth and development within the role Knowledge of broadcast IP concepts including routing and delivery Commitment to provide the best possible service to internal and external customers Help promote an effective health and safety culture to ensure a safe a working environment for all Desirable Skills Knowledge of Microsoft, Linux and OS X operating systems Experience with Avid, EVS or other file-based editing systems Knowledge of Newsroom Control Systems and other similar products Knowledge of broadcast graphics Knowledge of broadcast control systems, such as Cerebrum, would be an advantage Experience with file-based encoding and transfer systems An understanding of IT Networks LAN/fibre interconnection Ability to write concise handovers as part of communication within the team and to relay information to operational and editorial departments
