Casualty is a multi-award-winning drama series about the staff and patients at the Holby City Emergency Department, charting the ups and downs in their personal and professional lives whilst tackling many controversial and taboo issues. Through great writing and visual flair the show balances gritty realism with high drama to keep its millions of dedicated viewers coming back for more, on-screen and on-line, week in week out.

Main Responsibilities
You'll report to Richie Stevens, the Lighting Director.

The Best Boy will be responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the electrical department, both equipment and personnel scheduled on individual episodes of the production and where required will deputise for the Gaffer.

Other aspects required within this role include completing all paperwork and ensure accurate completion of timesheets, along with the ability of creating and keeping an up to date interactive log in order to carry out all construction, rigging and de-rigging, testing and maintenance.

Where the requirement of any additional equipment and personnel, the Best Boy is required to research and hire as may be required for the episode, under authorisation from the Gaffer and Unit Production Manager.

Along with the Gaffer, the Best Boy is required to attend recces to location sites in order to estimate the requirements for power facilities and ancillary equipment required and compile the necessary orders. During this time, there may be the need to plan and install temporary power supplies in studios/locations for use on productions where additional capacity or increased security of supplies is required.

Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate the following -

Qualified with a certificate in Design and Management of Temporary Electrical Systems BS7909
Able to demonstrate a wide-ranging knowledge of television production processes, preferably gained within drama
Proven ability to influence and resolve differences in professional opinions, particularly where conflict may exist
Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to communicate with colleagues and to foster effective working relationships with a wide range of production and non-production personnel, internal and external to the BBC
Experience of leading and motivating teams, encouraging staff creativity
Awareness of the skills and abilities of professionals within the lighting industry
Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation
Ability to keep abreast of professional, technological and working practice changes
Possession of a valid driving license
Qualified to C&G 18th Edition
