Assistant Producer

OVERVIEW
Misfits Entertainement are looking for a proactive, journalistic Assistant Producer to support production on a premium documentary exploring online harm, anonymity, and accountability.

The Assistant Producer will work closely with the Producer and wider team across research, story development, production and post-production. The role has a strong investigative focus, particularly identifying and engaging contributors connected to online communities central to the story.

This includes reviewing online threads, verifying information, and cataloguing and managing archive and evidential material.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with the Producer on sensitive and high-risk areas of research, supporting investigation and development under clear editorial direction
Conduct targeted research and investigative outreach into online communities and individuals relevant to the story
Identify, approach and pre-interview potential contributors, including sensitive or hard-to-reach voices
Support the team in developing new leads, particularly around anonymous or pseudonymous individuals
Assist in shaping editorial research and building story threads
Review confidential material, including legal bundles and background documentation, to build understanding of the case
Track timelines and identify key narrative connection points across multiple sources
Develop a deep understanding of contributor stories and journeys
Review and analyse online threads and platforms, identifying relevant material and patterns
Catalogue, organise and manage archive and evidential material
Liaise with contributors in a professional, sensitive and ethical manner, in line with duty of care protocols
Compile clear research notes, briefs and call summaries
Work closely with the Producer to prioritise leads and track progress
Contribute to fact-checking and background research
Maintain awareness of legal, data protection and compliance considerations when dealing with sensitive material

IDEAL CANDIDATE
Strong journalistic instincts with experience in documentary, current affairs or investigative research
Experience working on premium factual or documentary projects with an investigative edge
Proven ability to find and engage difficult-to-access contributors
Confident handling sensitive subject matter with care and discretion
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
Highly organised with the ability to work quickly and independently
Comfortable navigating online spaces, forums, and digital trails
Strong understanding of compliance, legal considerations, and fact-checking in factual programming

Additional Information
