Assistant Producer (Radio)

London

Radio 3 introduces its audience to remarkable music and culture. It does this through a unique schedule of live and recorded concerts of classical music, new music, jazz and world music, as well as through debates, documentaries, features and ambitious drama. It is the main broadcast partner of the BBC Proms and of the BBC Orchestras and BBC Singers.

Radio 3 Production makes a portfolio of programmes including Breakfast, Lunchtime Concerts, Afternoon on 3, In Tune, Sound of Cinema, The Listening Service, Jazz Record Requests, World on 3 and Radio 3 in Concert.

Role Responsibility
An Assistant Producer assists in the preparation and production of creative content. This may be content for a radio programme, or for mobile, websites, the iplayer, EPGs and other multiple platforms. This involves research, technical operations and audio, online and interactive production work.

Assistant producers work to other senior colleagues who are responsible for ensuring the programmes and content they produce complies with all relevant BBC and external (e.g. Ofcom) guidelines and legislation. An Assistant producer will refer upon matters of potential controversy and for editorial advice.

Assistant Producers in Radio 3 Production may be asked to work on any of our programmes and we have teams based in London and Salford. This post is based in London. There may be some evening and weekend working.

The Ideal Candidate
In addition to a thorough knowledge of Classical Music and Opera and enthusiasm for the programmes of Radio 3 Production including World Music and Jazz, you must be able to demonstrate experience of all aspects of radio production including IT systems: e.g. Proteus, rights clearances issues, contracting of artists, live studio work, sound recording, and Digital including social media. You will have demonstrable research techniques and skills appropriate to the output of Radio 3 Production. Good interpersonal and team working skills and good talent management skills are important, as is the ability to manage complex projects or programme strands. You will also have the ability to generate ideas appropriate for Radio 3 programmes.
