Assistant Producer (Planning)

London

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Assistant Producer-Planning who is a self-starter bursting with ideas and ready to join this fast moving and exciting production. We want to be plugged into what people are talking about every day to make sure the programme is lively, relevant and having the right conversations. We are looking for this new member of the team to start as soon as possible.

The Assistant Producer-Planning will be tasked with taking responsibility for identifying and booking special guests and panellists for the programme, being across the news diary in order to plan relevant topics and guests, creating and developing programme ideas and helping to produce all elements of content for the show. The successful candidate will be tenacious, proactive, full of ideas, and have a great contacts book.

Responsibilities
* Identify and book guests for appearances on the panel and high-profile, news-making interviews
* Be across the news agenda in order to plan relevant topics and tailored guests
* Produce the strand Talking Telly
* Pitch and plan discussion topics and ideas for multimedia coverage
* Be able to produce the daily news review when necessary
* Produce on-air graphics when necessary
* Operate the phone box system which puts callers on air when necessary
* Maintain knowledge and understanding of topical issues
* Develop and maintain contacts
* Think clearly and decisively, particularly when faced with unexpected problems and make rational decisions
* Contribute to writing scripts, lead-ins and selecting picture when necessary
* Use AVID Newscutter to edit content (pictures and soundbites) for the show
* Ensure stories are accurate and comply with the law and relevant regulations
* Deal professionally with members of the public and guests
* Work in accordance with ITN guidelines on health and safety.

Qualifications & Skills
* Excellent contacts book
* Tenacious and organised
* Previous experience in daily/topical shows is essential
* Knowledge and experience of topical issues and current affairs
* Editorially creative and imaginative
* Strong research skills and pitching skills
* Adept at working independently - a self-starter, comfortable at being stretched
* Excellent communication skills (verbal/written/visual)
* Ability to work autonomously and under own initiative
* Ability to prioritise workload efficiently and manage multiple projects
* Excellent writing ability
* The highest standards of accuracy and attention to detail around often complex and controversial material
* Experience of legal situations and understanding of ITN Legal Compliance procedures
* Ability to edit pictures using Avid Newscutter
* Ability to shoot video would be desirable
* Good interpersonal skills, team player with personal authority
* Enthusiastic and passionate
* Calm under pressure with the ability to adapt and be flexible in task and role
* Ability to work to tight deadlines
