Always On Podcast Producer

London, possibly hybrid HYBRID

A project or contract position at Message Heard, London, UK

Location: London, with potential for hybrid working
Contract: Fixed term
Remuneration: Competitive, dependent on experience

About Us

Message Heard is an award-winning podcast and media company working with ambitious brands and broadcasters, alongside a growing slate of original IP. We combine editorially led storytelling with rigorous delivery across audio, video and emerging formats. We're in a significant growth phase: moving from "great audio" to franchises that live natively on YouTube and across social. This role sits at the centre of that shift - taking shows like Conflicted and turning them into scaled, monetisable digital audiences.

The Role

We are looking for a Podcast Producer to lead production on an always-on daily news podcast for a leading UK newspaper, releasing one episode every weekday. This is a hands-on role for a Producer who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys working to tight deadlines, and has experience delivering high-quality audio on quick turnarounds.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end production of a daily audio news podcast, from shaping the editorial focus each day through to recording, editing, and publishing. This role suits someone who is confident in making editorial decisions at speed, comfortable balancing accuracy with efficiency, and motivated by the rhythm and momentum of daily output. You'll be expected to bring strong editorial instincts to each episode, ensuring clarity, relevance, and consistency across the show.

Responsibilities

Produce, host, and release one audio episode per day, Monday to Friday, to a consistent publishing schedule.
Attend daily editorial briefings and identify the best angles for audio.
Write host scripts that are tight and conversational.
Edit episodes end-to-end: structure, pace, clarity, music beds, levels, cleanup, and deliver broadcast-ready masters.
Fact-check, ensure accurate attribution, and apply strong editorial standards.
Conduct interviews with leading journalists and relevant guests, keeping people engaged and being attentive.
Maintain high editorial and production quality while working at speed.
Manage the day-to-day production workflow, ensuring reliability and continuity across episodes.
Work collaboratively with hosts, editors, and stakeholders to keep the show sharp, timely, and on brief.
Respond quickly to breaking or developing stories where required.

What We're Looking For

Proven experience producing spoken-word audio (daily/fast-turnaround is a big plus).
Great editorial judgment and the ability to make confident decisions under pressure.
Confident interviewing skills and the ability to coach non-audio people into sounding great.
Strong technical skills: recording setups, mic technique, remote recording, editing, mixing, loudness standards. Capable of coaching people to sound confident.
A host who is energetic, upbeat, has a conversational delivery and is able to add flourish with pace, humour and emphasis when needed.
Highly organised, dependable, and comfortable working to a fixed daily deadline.
Calm, focused, and solutions-oriented in fast-moving production environments.
A strong understanding of news-driven storytelling and audience expectations.
London-based, aligned to newsroom schedules.
Hybrid/office expectations depending on editorial needs.

Tools & Tech

Adobe Audition
Remote records via Riverside / Zoom
Google Workspace, Slack
Basic mastering/loudness workflows and file delivery discipline

How To Apply

CV
A short note on why you're right for a daily newsroom show.
2-3 examples of audio you've produced (links), ideally including something with a fast-turnaround or interview-led.

Why Join Us?

This is a chance to take real ownership of a high-profile daily podcast for a major UK news brand, at a moment when always-on audio is becoming central to how audiences engage with news. You'll sit close to the newsroom, shaping a fast, reliable, and editorially rigorous show while being supported by an experienced production company focused on scale, consistency, and audience growth. It's a role for someone who thrives on momentum, responsibility, and the satisfaction of publishing work that matters.
