Video Journalist - Part Time

West Wales

BBC Wales News and Current Affairs produces more than 700 hours of television programming each year covering local, national and international news. This role will be an important part of the news gathering process supporting both daily news and weekly programmes.


Newsgathering serves all BBC Wales news services - television, radio and online - in both languages. With a team of reporters and camera operators across Wales, and specialist journalistic teams, the work of Newsgathering impacts on News programmes in Wales and throughout the UK.

Role

We are looking for a talented video journalist to work in West Wales two days a week, with a special emphasis on the Wales Today programme, although serving all outlets.

Candidates will need to be able to cover the West Wales area for the two days.

The successful candidates will possess exceptional news judgment, the ability to generate ideas, and a genuine enthusiasm and interest in Welsh issues, and the matters affecting West Wales. You will have to turn ideas into items that will engage the audience and be comfortable with live broadcasting.

You will already be able or will be prepared to learn to shoot and edit your own packages and the ability to work quickly under pressure is essential.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute regularly to radio news programmes, and prepare copy for the Newsgathering and Newsonline units.

Requirements

The successful applicant will be expected to possess:

1. A high standard of editorial judgement, writing ability and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalism experience.

2. Ability to originate and develop programme ideas.

3. A thorough understanding of production methods used in Regional Broadcasting and the ability to use technical and operational skills across Television, Radio and Online as required.
