Trainee Sound Mixer

London

Reporting into the Head of Studio Operations, you will be trained to balance live sound across all ITN's output, delivering to EBU R128 Live UK Loudness specification. You will eventually work alone in the sound control room coping with the constant alteration of running orders, co-ordinating studio mics with the Floor Assistant, setting up outside sources with MCR and local phone calls on your mixer. You will be taught to understand typical audio signal routing and programming principals on analogue and digital sound mixers. You will learn how to use compression and limiting to produce a pleasing and compliant balance of sound. You will become fully proficient in the use of IFB's, 4-wires and the evolving use of Internet Protocol devices for broadcast and communications between the field and the studio. You will also be taught how to program digital intercom matrices from RTS Telex and Riedel using AZ Edit and Director software. You will become fully conversant with communications requirements in a broadcast situation.

Responsibilities:

To balance sound across all of ITN's output
To be able to cope with the constant alteration of running orders and different sound sources of differing quality, both in video and lives
To understand all sound metering, limiting and compressing of sound are imperative
To use 4-wires and deal with the setting up of remote sources
To communicate with the director or technical director in the control room, and to understand when you do not need to

Qualifications:

You will be a graduate or someone who has had a little time working in a radio or television studio
Ideally you will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in all things sound
Your ability to react quickly and efficiently to changing situations, coupled with your calmness when working under pressure, will set you apart
