Technical Assistant

London

We are a busy music TV and visuals production company in Soho. We have 6 x graphics and edit suites in our offices and are looking for a technical assistant to help oversee our Apple Mac edit, machine equipment & software. The successful candidate should have a natural interest in creative technology, and a self-motivated organised approach. This is primarily a technical rather than creative role. It requires some practical experience at professional level - would suit someone making a move from freelance to permanent or someone looking for their 2nd role.

Hardware

• 6 x Final Cut Pro suites running over a fibre channel SAN with large centralised hard drive
• SDI wired to central machine room
• Digi Beta, HD CAM, HD CAM SR and XD CAM machines
• Patching
• Audio Monitoring

Advanced knowledge Apple Mac Systems is essential, as a thorough understanding of of Final Cut Pro:

• Setting up editing projects inc. multicam
• Project sequence and output settings inc working in HD
• Trouble shooting
• Exporting Quicktimes in multiple formats
• Laying off to tape at broadcast specification

Good knowledge of DVD Studio Pro:

• Creating & authoring simple client viewing DVD's
• Simple menu design
• Showreel DVD's

Additionally a working knowledge of some or all of the following software / systems is desirable:

• After Effects
• Photoshop
• Illustrator
• Compressor
• Audio software such as ProTools
• Cinema 4D
• Microsoft Office
• Networks inc connection with Windows PC's
• FTP upload sites

Examples of daily responsibilities:

•Working alongside editors assisting project set ups and tape layoff - patching in hired decks (HDSR, HDCAM etc)
• General trouble shooting / problem solving
• Updating software and reporting back on any problems - advising us on updates/ upgrades we might need
• Checking and 'tidying up' all systems including overall monitoring and management of the data stored on the SAN
• Quality control to broadcast standards.
• Making & authoring simple DVD's
• Assisting producers running off short Quicktimes
• Uploading to viewing FTP site for clients
• Implementing small edits
• Helping with some editing during busy periods
• General IT support for team
