Studio Vision Engineer - Technical Director

London

What does it take to keep more than ten million subscribers entertained every day? Great programmes, of course, but just as important is a team of professionals who work at the forefront of technology to get those programmes on air. The question is have you got the ambition and talent to join them?

The Broadcast Operations team has moved into its new, eight studios, HD Broadcast Centre and with the introduction of Formula 1 an opportunity exists to join us and become part of the team that develops, implements and supports the advanced systems in this state of the art facility.

The Studio Vision Engineer (Technical Director) is the most senior technician in Sky's Production Control Areas (Studios Galleries), be it in a multi-camera studio, server edit area or interactive control area, and provides the main point of contact between the Production Team and the remainder of the technical crew.

The role is to ensure that the Production Control Area is fully operational and lined up to professional broadcast engineering standards. As such, the successful applicant will be required to line up the equipment and liaise with Transmission, Master Control and other areas. In multi-camera studios, you will also be responsible for vision control.

On occasions, you will also be responsible for the temporary installation of extra production equipment and facilities. To be able to do this, you will need a good understanding of SD, HD and 3D signals, and be able to perform accurate signal measurements.

You will be especially versatile and pro-active, being able to cope with a wide range of programmes in Control Areas of varying size and facilities. As a Studio Vision Engineer (Technical Director) you must be prepared to work under pressure influenced by time, technology and programme requirements.

Successful applicants are likely to have recent and relevant broadcast engineering and/or technical operational experience, preferably with a solid background in studio operations. An operational knowledge of Grass Valley and Sony vision mixers and cameras plus EVS server and control technology is desirable although not essential as full training will be provided.
