DepartmentSix month Attachment/ Fixed Term Contract Doctors is the week day daily drama shown on BBC ONE and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including three recent British Soap awards. The production is based in the Birmingham Drama Village where other shows including Land Girls are also produced.With over 350 hours of in-house output a year, BBC Drama Production is making some of the most original, diverse and highly acclaimed television. These range from continuing drama such as Holby City, Casualty, EastEnders and Doctors, to series and serials such as Silent Witness, Luther and Five Daughters and Silk to name just a few.RoleReporting to the Senior Producer in the first instance, you will work in close conjunction with the Producers to provide editorial and research support to the development team. You'll be advising on all script matters connected with all stages of the production from the initial ideas stage, to amendments and to the shooting of the script. Generating creative ideas as well as long term story ideas, you will work with the production teams representing the writers' interests, ensuring their consent to script changes as well as ensuring the scripts are editorially correct and carrying out the necessary checks. Where necessary you'll be restructuring and generating new storylines within your script as well as turning around creative drafts in short spaces of time. You'll be expected to take steps to identify and encourage new writing talent and to maintain an up-to-date awareness of emerging talent. RequirementsPeople working on Doctors are a talented, experienced and creative bunch. To join them and make this programme one of the most talked about on the channel, it's really important you have the necessary skills we're looking for below.• Relevant experience and script-editing experience.• A knowledge of new writers/talent etc.• An understanding of copyright law, Writers Guild agreements, contracts and the legal implications of the production process.• Thorough knowledge of script sources and the availability and potential of emerging talent.• An enthusiasm and interest in popular entertainment, especially Doctors. • Experience of handling sensitive information discreetly• Experience of working with writers under pressure.It's really, really important that you have all these skills.
