Producer/Reporter - Traffic News

London


We seek several Traffic News Producer/Reporters to cover international major traffic events from our London Traffic Intelligence Centre. The successful candidates will provide in-depth TV, Radio, Print, and Online traffic news reports and analysis to a wide range of major Broadcast, Print, and Online news organizations and other clients across the U.K, North America and beyond.

As a Traffic News Producer/Reporter (London), you will help us provide packages with in-vision presenters, graphics, audio bulletins, and written reports along with data services and tools to allow clients to build their own traffic solutions. You will be willing to work on a shift basis which will include overnights, weekends and public holidays.

We are the definitive source for real-time traffic reports, traffic-influenced navigation, expert analysis of traffic news events, traffic forecasts, and traveler news across media, public sector, automotive, mobile, internet, fleet, and direct-to-consumer channels in 30 countries including the leading provider in Europe and North America. We help more than 150 million drivers save time, fuel, and money on their daily commutes. In media, we deliver or power several million traffic reports, annually. From our traffic intelligence centres in the US and Europe, we provide media support for major traffic events across various media and public sector outlets including TV, Radio, Print, Mobile, and Online.

Primary Responsibilities

• Report breaking and planned traffic news
• Write investigative stories related to roadway travel and public transit including:
- major weather events that threaten life and property
- major traffic or travel-related accidents involving fatalities and significant injuries
- catastrophic failure of transit infrastructure
- natural disasters that impact travel in significant ways
- civil disturbances, strikes, and protests
- major transit delays
• Research and report the impact of planned events such as:
- big construction projects or roadway network changes (e.g., new roads or tolling)
- major sporting events or international competitions
- celebrations, commemorations , and inaugurations
- holiday travel
- upcoming traffic 'nightmares'

• Write and deliver investigative stories on special interest items such as:
the National Traffic Scorecard and the Urban Mobility Report
legislation that affects drivers like fuel taxes and texting bans
government misdeeds, neglect and waste that lead to travel disruption and delays
• Support efforts to obtain customers, clients, distributors, and sponsors as needed
• Make spokesperson appearances for industry, corporate, customer, or community events as required
• Expressed passion for drivers saving time and avoiding traffic congestion required -- including the ability to explain how the our products work

Required Skillset

You must be a highly motivated, 'roll-up your sleeves', self-starter; with a passion for communicating news in an environment with limited resources and shifting priorities. You are motivated by action and impact. You thrive on new insights, creative solutions and meaningful results. You bring strong skills across reporting, writing, and editing. You are honest, diplomatic, courageous, smart, literate and possess excellent inter-personal skills.

Additionally, you will demonstrate the following skill set and experiences:

• News reporting experience on at least a regional level, preferably on a national level
• Experience at a broadcast organisation in front of the camera
• Experience in utilising technology to fact-find and conduct research with strong creative, written, and oral communication skills relating to translating technical concepts for news reports
• Possess the ability to bring critical thinking to analytical and investigative challenges relating to real world crises, breaking news, and major events
• Experience with computers and computer based analytical tools
• Excellent organisational skills
• Experience with social media to connect with broad audiences and various "crowd sources"
• Proven ability to maintain and leverage relationships with experts and trusted sources
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage a wide variety of projects simultaneously and on deadline
• Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across a wide range of groups and functions
• Familiarity with a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and frequent changes
• Strong interpersonal, negotiating and diplomatic skills required to effectively manage relationships with diverse internal and external contacts
• Willingness to travel as needed to cover major news events or visit clients
• Willingness to work extended hours at short notice as dictated by the role
• A knowledge of North American, Western European and other Worldwide geography and road networks would be advantageous
