Duties:

The Producer in London is a critical position with responsibility for outputting The World Right Now with Hala Gorani and other shows as needed. The person provides editorial guidance to a team of writers and leads the programme team, with immediate responsibility for taking the show to air. They determine the rundown, react to late breaking news, and are in the control room as programmes go to air.

The Producer determines which stories will be presented in a newscast and how those stories will be presented. The producer must coordinate the efforts of the writers and PA's who assist in the programme production. The producer must know and understand all of the daily stories and what treatments the stories deserve in a particular programme. To that end, the producer spends a large part of the shift studying wires and interacting with the assignment desk, supervisors and show team to determine just how CNNI will be covering and presenting stories each day. After determining which stories will appear in the program and their treatment, the producer must a build a rundown which is the guide for the programme.

Producers are also responsible for writing some elements of the show, most often the show open, teases and set-ups for special segments. The producer must then execute the rundown in the control room. In the run-up to the show, the producer must check all tasks assigned for the show, making sure all scripts are written, all graphics have been ordered and completed and all video material is in place and ready to air. The producer oversees the control room staff who get the show on air based on the rundown. The producer must also be prepared to change the running order at a moment's notice if the news changes or in case of technical problems.

After the show, the producer must review the programme with copyeditors, supervisors and the show team to discuss how the show went on air. The producer should also feed back to guest booking team on show guests and also give ideas and some guidance on guests requested for future shows.

Qualifications:

The producer must possess a thorough knowledge of international news, general and business news and have substantial experience in broadcast journalism.

Candidates must possess:

Good knowledge of television production including experience on outside broadcasts or in the field.

Possess leadership, coaching and team building skills
