New Media Assistant -

Deadline Friday 26th March

This role is based in the Office of External Affairs and Communications. We are looking for someone to support the Commissioning Editor (new media) and the head of Communication Services. Tasks are wide ranging and fall into 4 main areas:

Production/support/training
• Ability to shoot competently on Sony Z1 and edit on Avid Media composer.
• Ability to support/train colleagues in recording and editing of simple audio and video podcasts, building on training they have already received on Sony Z1 and Avid.
• Checking copyright compliance
• Digitising rushes.
• A knowledge of Camtasia (not essential)

Studio maintenance
• Effectively run the Avid edit suite, including re-plugging for digitising from different formats, including EX1, DV cam, VHS, exporting using Avid/Sorensen squeeze, creating DVD's, carrying out regular consolidation and back up procedures, etc.
• Maintaining camera, tracks and lighting equipment
• Running booking systems for kit, edit suite and tapes

Promotion
• Up-load media to YouTube, Vimeo, iTunes U etc.
• Devise and carry out effective strategies to publicise resulting media to both mass and influential audiences via the internet
• Research and approach websites that may want to host our output on a film by film basis.
• Carry out statistical evaluation of number of views of podcasts

General requirements
• General administrative work and liason
• Dealing with enquiries from the general public

Skills required:
Knowledge of (essential) AVID, (essential) Sorenson Squeeze, and (essential) Sony Z1, (preferred Sony EX1)
Ability and confidence to communicate with key stakeholders both internally and externally in person, by email and telephone.
Strong technical aptitude
