OVERALL ROLEThis is an existing seasonal post, within the organisation's production departments. This job description will be reviewed after one year.The Lighting & Sound Assistant is responsible to the Head of Lighting and Sound. The post holder will participate in the effective and efficient delivery of Pitlochry Festival Theatre's lighting and sound services. The post holder is expected to make a positive contribution to the development of the Production & Resources Group and to the success of the company as a whole.Pitlochry Festival Theatre aspires to the highest quality in its production values and in the delivery of technical services and the post holder will have a role in achieving quality targets and developing and maintaining standards. The Head of Lighting & Sound is the line manager for this post.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIESTo participate in the effective and efficient delivery of Lighting & Sound Services for all Pitlochry Festival Theatre and visiting productions, events and activitiesTo promote and participate in an alert and positive approach to Health & Safety in the delivery of all Pitlochry Festival Theatre's production services, in accordance with Pitlochry Festival Theatre's Health & Safety policy and practiceTo work as an effective member of the Technical Services Team and contribute to the development of the Production & Resources Group as a wholeIn pursuit of the above, the Lighting & Sound Assistant's duties will include:Working with the Head of Lighting & Sound in the delivery of all Lighting & Sound services required for the mounting of productions, events and activities within the Pitlochry Festival Theatre campus, and including get-ins, fit-ups, strikes, get-outs, turnarounds, AV presentations, seminars, meetings and conferences, broadcast and media events and other kinds of activity; and for all Pitlochry Festival Theatre community, education and outreach activities both within and outwith the Pitlochry Festival Theatre campusTo participate in the use, safety and maintenance of all electrical and electronic equipment owned, hired or borrowed on behalf of the Pitlochry Festival Society in all aspects of the Company's workTo participate in the daily re-focus and setting up of Lighting & Sound equipment for the main season repertoireCreate such lighting and/or sound to the highest standard as may be required for other Pitlochry Festival Events, Community and Education work, visiting artists and companies in main house, foyer or other areas as requiredParticipate in the planning, execution and delivery of electrical and electronic requirements for conferences and eventsTo participate in the usage, maintenance, repair and renewal of Lighting & Sound plant and equipmentParticipating in the provision of clean, efficient, well-organised and safe physical working environments in areas used by Pitlochry Festival Theatre's the Lighting & Sound Department Health and SafetyPromoting and participating in an alert and positive approach to Health & Safety and appropriate working methods at all times and ensuring that Pitlochry Festival Theatre's Health & Safety policy and is applied effectively to all activities undertaken by the Lighting & Sound Department Assisting in the delivery or where appropriate conducting appropriate risk assessments on a regular basisTo work as an effective Member of the Lighting & Sound Services Team and contribute to the development of the Production & Resources Group as a wholeAny other reasonable instruction from the Head of Lighting and Sound, Technical Manager or Head of Production & ResourcesGeneralSupporting policies designed to promote staff welfare, development and trainingSupporting and providing flexible working practices within the Lighting & Sound DepartmentAssisting in the maintenance of effective communications within the Lighting & Sound Department, between the Lighting & Sound Department and the Head of Production & Resources and with other teams in the Production & Resources Department Lighting and Sound Assistant - Person SpecificationEssential Personal DispositionA respected lighting and sound technician A good team playerFlexible and diplomaticA problem solverWilling to work across a wide range of areasA positive attitudeCalm under pressureAn effective communicatorEssential skills and experienceAt least 2 years experience as Assistant in a Lighting & Sound department or similar within the performing arts industryPractical experience of working within a Lighting & Sound department Good working knowledge of current lighting, electrics and sound technical practice Good communication skills, both written and verbalKnowledge of current Health & Safety issues and practice within the UK performing arts industryExperience of working directly with creative personnelMust be IT literateDesirable skills and experienceExperience of mainstream UK theatre productionExperience of repertoire systemsExperience of multi-site workingExperience of working production weeksExperience of working within a predominantly rural environment Full clean driving licenseExperience of key software applications: Excel, Word, etc.
