Lead Artist

Bromsgrove hybrid / Remote HYBRID

Role and Purpose

We are looking for a highly experienced and skilled creative leader to play a pivotal role in crafting visually stunning and immersive game content that captivates players' imaginations and enhances their gaming experience. This individual will be able to motivate, inspire and develop a diverse team of artists whilst also ensuring we meet our high quality benchmark - producing work that seamlessly blends aesthetics, gameplay, and storytelling.

Responsibilities

Be responsible for the art team across an entire project - managing and guiding highly skilled teams across multiple disciplines to deliver game art content to exceptional quality by delivery deadlines - whilst meeting all performance, gameplay and aesthetic targets.
Establish and communicate a clear artistic vision for the project, aligning it with the overall game design and narrative.
Communicate and collaborate with the Head of Art, Creative Director and multiple project teams to establish and uphold the quality bar of the game's artwork, ensuring a consistent and cohesive visual identity.
Oversee the day-to-day progress of the team and ensure compliance with project specific update/feedback/production processes.
Champion best pipeline practices for asset creation, optimization, and performance, ensuring artwork meets visual quality standards and runs smoothly across target platforms.
Work alongside the other Leads to solve problems and help define and scope content, considering dependencies and bottlenecks.
Own delivery of completed art content, presenting work to internal and external stakeholders with exceptional communication and presentation skills.
Lead by example, keeping an enthusiastic attitude for the project whilst motivating and supporting a diverse team of artists.
Manage staff interviews, onboarding, mentorship programmes and performance reviews, fostering skill development and artistic growth.
Support the Art team studio-wide, perpetuating and building on our studio culture.
Stay informed about industry trends, visual styles, and emerging technologies in games and related media, identifying areas we can improve and working with others to action.

Requirements

Shipped at least one title in a leadership position, within a relevant game art production pipeline.
Excellent understanding of the art production pipeline for Unreal Engine content.
Expert level understanding of game art creation in your area of expertise and proven understanding of the wider art pipeline, including environment/prop art, character creation, concept art, visual effects, animation, lighting, cinematics and UI.
Advanced understanding of relevant software such as Maya, Photoshop, Substance, Zbrush or equivalents.
Strong understanding of composition, colour theory, lighting and how these shape a player's experience.
Strong support-focused interpersonal skills, able to communicate and collaborate effectively.
Manage your time effectively, be able to delegate and prioritise based on the needs of the project and team.
A passion for gaming and a commitment to delivering visually stunning and captivating gaming experiences.

Desirable Skills

High proficiency with real-time dynamic lighting setups, able to use light and atmospherics to enhance a scene.
Solid 2D art skills, including the ability to create concept art and paint-overs to guide development.
