STAFF MANAGEMENT AND SCHEDULING
a) To lead the technical team strategically, operationally and creatively to ensure that
individually and together they can deliver on the creative, financial and operational
requirements of Cast.
b) To advise the Executive Director and key staff on scheduling, planning and budgeting of
all artistic events and projects to ensure effective delivery and financial viability.
c) To lead on the production and technical elements of the new building, maximising it as a
resource and ensuring that the facility is managed and maintained to the highest
standards.
d) To line manage the technical staff on a daily basis, providing clear guidance and informal
feedback on a regular basis. To conduct structured formal appraisals according to
company policy.
e) To take responsibility for general staff performance, discipline (in conjunction with the
HR Department), attendance and motivation using existing company policies and
procedures, consulting with internal specialists as required for guidance and support.
f) To take responsibility for the scheduling of technical staff to support all operational
and other activity, adhering to any House Agreements and deploying staff in the most
cost-effective manner according to their skill set. Authorise staff time sheets (via
clocking in/out system) and submit to the HR (payroll) department within agreed time
scales.
g) To call, chair and minute regular department meetings to ensure robust and effective
communication and transparent information sharing.
h) To recruit (in conjunction with the HR Department) additional staff as necessary within
agreed budgets and ensuring adequate levels of competency. To create a mechanism for informal training to take place and to create a culture of learning and continuous
professional development amongst the staff.
i) Where appropriate, informal training could be delivered by the post holder.
j) To ensure that staff are kept fully up to date with technical and maintenance
procedures and working practices through a structured multi-skilled training
programme.
k) To create and sustain a culture of customer focused delivery with all creative
professional, educational and non-professional users of Cast.
TECHNICAL OPERATIONS
a) To have overall responsibility for all operational activity within Cast and to take full
operational ownership of the theatres and adjacent technical, rehearsal and
performance spaces and facilities.
b) To be responsible for the management and delivery of the technical requirements of
incoming professional and non-professional organisations using the facilities, including
visiting artists and companies, students, voluntary groups, commercial bookers and
organisations/ individuals hiring facilities for artistic and non-artistic purposes.
c) To oversee and supervise the work of visiting companies during their visit in any of the
performance and rehearsal spaces within Cast.
d) To ensure that get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs are safe and conform to Cast agreed safe
working procedures and industry-recognised codes of conduct.
e) To liaise with visiting companies about detailed technical and staffing requirements,
ensuring technical information, method statements and risk assessments are delivered
on time and according to the agreed contract.
f) To advise box office, marketing and front of house staff about proposed removal of
seats for sound desk positions and orchestra pit layouts.
g) To ensure Cast technical specifications and CAD drawings are kept up to date in order to
share with visiting companies and co-producers.
h) To ensure appropriate systems are in place for budgeting and financial control of all
activity and that timely and accurate recharging of staff and technical costs are provided
as appropriate.
i) To production / project manage Cast generated events and co-productions, delegating
responsibility to others as necessary.
j) In conjunction with the Head of Business Development (Operations), to liaise with the
local licensing and fire authorities on matters relating to compliancy with performance
operations for visiting companies and artists performing in Cast.
k) To ensure materials and consumables required by the technical department are
available in accordance with the Company's approved procedures. To monitor closely
the annual technical maintenance budget and to ensure that expenditure is kept to
within this agreed budget.
l) To act as the 'responsible person' backstage during performances when necessary
