Graphics Assistant

London

BBC Arabic is the largest service within the BBC World Service, providing news and current affairs on Radio, TV and Online to Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and beyond. Similarly, BBC Persian is a vibrant multi-platform service based in London offering video, audio and text across TV, Radio and Online. It has a 24 hour online operation and highly successful television and radio services. These services broadcast a variety of programmes on topics such as news and current affairs, and social, cultural and entertainment issues.

Working as a Graphics Assistant as part of a team, you will report and work to the Senior/Graphic Designers working in BBC Arabic & Persian. The team are responsible for providing graphics for a range of News & Programmes.

There are two roles available and both are for 9 month attachments/fixed term contracts.

The Persian TV service is live 8 hours a day, whereas Arabic TV is live 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is an exciting and challenging time for both of these high impact channels, with recent historical news events and volatility in the Middle East. Role

You'll support the Graphics Designers in BBC Arabic & Persian to complete graphics for broadcast programmes, completing 2D and 3D graphics work. You'll be responsible for achieving and maintaining the highest creative and editorial standards by working to deadlines agreed with production teams and Graphic Designers, as well as contributing creatively to the graphics brief in consultation with the Graphics Designers.

You'll prepare, collate and research preparatory material to support the graphic design concept and to prepare such initial work as is necessary to convey the design intention in the form of working drawings, storyboards and layouts.
Alongside this, you'll be expected to work in any area of the Department as required, supporting the unit with other related duties and be expected to embrace a learning culture of constant software usage development.

Requirements

You'll need to have some professional experience of graphic design work, and a relevant design qualification. You'll also be able to show a competent understanding of 2D compositing and motion effects using Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. A practical and technical creativity and an understanding of TV broadcast production are required as it is the ability to work independently and to provide professional support to a design team.
