Job IntroductionTechnology Operations is part of the Technology Group within Technology, Distribution & Archives. As the broadcast technology partner for BBC programme teams, Technology Operations is responsible for keeping multi-media output available 24/365 for News, World Service and Audio & Music. Technology Operations also provides operational switching and monitoring of incoming and outgoing live and pre recorded material across a range of BBC output, business continuity, broadcast duty management and a range of operational support servicesRole ResponsibilityTechnology Operations support staff are responsible for delivering a high quality technology support service on behalf of the BBC. They ensure that equipment and systems used to create, capture, manipulate and distribute BBC content meet targets for availability, performance and safety. Technicians, Engineers and Principal Engineers support and enable multi-media production and broadcast activities to ensure the BBC provides a quality service to its audience. It is essential that role holders understand the needs of the business and the pressures faced by production teams. Engineers are characterised by their ability to develop appropriate solutions to incidents, problems and management of safety, using new or existing technologies, through innovation, creativity and change.The Ideal CandidateExperience of working in a broadcast, technology, or similar environmentAn interest in the creative elements of broadcastingAn ability to act quickly, pragmatically and assertively under pressure to prioritise and resolve technical issuesFamiliarity and empathy with the needs of multi-media production teams including an awareness of pressures and deadlinesAn ability to systematically analyse and diagnose technical issuesSelf motivated to initiative, originate action and be responsible for consequent decisionsTo communicate clearly with a range of people at different levels of the organisation and explain and discuss technical issues using a range of styles, tools and techniquesTo work in a manner in keeping with the BBC's valuesTo effectively plan, prioritise and co-ordinate own and others' activitiesTo assess and advise on technical standards in line with BBC guidelinesTo work effectively as part of a team, taking the lead as necessaryTo work unsupervised and unassisted, staffing an area single handedly when requiredFlexible and varied approach, devising creative solutionsPersistence and thoroughness to complete work and provide aftercareRelevant qualifications, preferably with a technical bias e.g. electronics, computer science, media technology and/or demonstrable practical experienceKnowledge and understanding of multi-media production and associated delivery systems.Knowledge and understanding of personal computers, servers, IT systems and networks in a corporate enterprise infrastructure.A keen interest in broadcast technology, its development and application across the BBC.Knowledge of current and relevant health and safety legislation particularly electrical safety.if you have applied for the position of Frontline Broadcast Engineer within the last 6 months, please specify in your application form.We don't focus simply on what we do - we also care how we do it.
