The BBC Symphony Orchestra is one of the UK's leading orchestras, presenting a season of concerts at the Barbican in London and providing the backbone of the BBC Proms. It makes numerous recordings for BBC Radio 3 and BBC Television in addition to commercial recordings and international touring. The Orchestra performs a wide range of repertoire with a particular commitment to contemporary music. Studio recordings play an important role in the Orchestra's life, both for BBC Radio 3 and for commercial recording companies, whilst a strong commitment to community and outreach work involves the Orchestra in a number of adventurous learning projects working with schools and members of the local community. RoleThis role is offered as a 6-month attachment/fixed term contract on Grade 3D.You will manage the payment process for freelance musicians employed by the Orchestra and co-ordinate the process for the recruitment of staff players. You will also provide administrative support to the Orchestra Manager and the Assistant Orchestra manager and provide the main point of contact for and assist with the management of the BBC SO / RCM Pathway Scheme.Some of your Auditions duties will include dealing with all routine correspondence associated with auditions from advertisement to final appointment, booking studios, rehearsal rooms and pianists for auditions. You will also be required to co-ordinate attendance of panel members at short-listing meetings and auditions as well as attend and manage auditions, welcome candidates and usher them into the rehearsal and audition. Auditions often occur during evenings or weekends.RequirementsYou will need to have a genuine interest in the work of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and preferably some experience of working in orchestral administration or a professional performing arts organisation. You will also need a good working knowledge of orchestral music and a strong practical musical education and background.
