Camera Trainees

Festival Camera Trainees needed for HowTheLightGetsIn, now in its seventh year, is the world's largest festival of philosophy and music attracting 30,000 people. HowTheLightGetsIn is put on by the Institute of Art and Ideas and the events at the festival are filmed and webcast on our own site IAI.tv and distributed across the web with millions of views.

We have a few remaining places in our film, camera and edit team for bright and enthusiastic candidates to join our exceptional team to capture all the aspects of this exciting festival. We're looking for Camera Trainee Volunteers. Successful candidates will assist the senior film team covering the debates, talks, concerts, and parties. As a member of the filming crew, you will receive an intensive 2-day camera training course as well as on-location training.

You will have the opportunity to shoot material yourself and to see all sides of the process, handling famous contributors, lighting venues, and editing material for web and television distribution. You will also assist in the organisation of the festival venues and the overall festival space throughout the ten day festival period. As members of the filming team you have the opportunity to assist and observe the entire process of filming a live festival which produces over 200 hours of broadcast footage.

These are challenging and varied roles that provide invaluable experience for those wishing to develop their career in film and trainees who wish to gain real life experience of working in a fast paced and exciting environment. All applicants should have an excellent educational background with a 2.1 or above from a top university.You will also need to demonstrate a keen interest and knowledge of cinematography and an enthusiasm for what the Institute of Art and Ideas is trying to achieve.

Camera Trainee Volunteers, will be provided with training, travel to and from the festival site in Hay, free accommodation and a contribution to your expenses over the festival. During the festival, you'll get an all access pass to a huge programme of debates and music that you can use when you are not working.

Successful candidates will need to provide a refundable deposit of to secure your place. Successful candidates will receive a fee, free accommodation and a contribution to your expenses over the festival.
