Bilingual Broadcast Assistant

London

BBC Learning English is the award-winning English language teaching arm of BBC World Service. It produces a media rich mix of content for learners of English around the world. Content is produced in all English and bi-lingual form and delivered on various platforms including radio, TV, online and mobile. There is now a requirement within the department for 2 X Bilingual Broadcast Assistants to work on 9 month Attachment/Fixed Term Contracts.

BBC World Service is part of the Global News Division which operates in a competitive multi-media market, creating and delivering content to a weekly audience of 238 million.

Role

You'll undertake factual research to a broad or specific brief specifically for the Brazilian audience , using a wide range of sources, and acting as a point of contact for all parts of the BBC and outside contributors, making arrangements and briefing them concerning the department's needs. You'll also book, arrange and coordinate production facilities, assisting in studio production, online production, interactive programmes, recordings and transmissions. As well as this, you'll work on maintaining and updating the website and in particular the interactive and video content. This will involve assembling the Internet pages, including text production, editing, selecting, capturing and taking still photos, and editing and uploading video and audio files.

The post holders will initially be assigned to a specific area of output, but over a period of time may be required to work elsewhere in the department.

Requirements

In order to be successful in this role, you'll have the ability to work effectively in both written and spoken Brazilian Portuguese and English. Proven experience of research ability in English and Portuguese as well as a good knowledge of the Brazilian audience and of internal and external sources of information are required. You'll also have good IT skills, including Office software as well as proficiency in using image and audio software such as Photoshop and Audition or equivalent.
