About Jamie Steedman

Ever since I was a little kid growing up around my mother's graphic design business I've been extremely passionate about everything to with graphics. It's something that's in my blood and very much spurred me on to pursue a career in it. I found out a way to combine this with my other love of film and television and this took me in the direction of becoming the motion graphic designer I am today.

My dedication to this

Ever since I was a little kid growing up around my mother's graphic design business I've been extremely passionate about everything to with graphics. It's something that's in my blood and very much spurred me on to pursue a career in it. I found out a way to combine this with my other love of film and television and this took me in the direction of becoming the motion graphic designer I am today.

My dedication to this passion was so that even in my first role as a production runner when I first arrived in London I would go home and teach myself After Effects and other graphics software until late into the night with the ambition of become a leading expert (which I can now call myself!). The experience I've gained has now led on to me working in my eigth successful year as a freelance motion designer and video/film editor.

• I've worked across multiple industries from advertising to fashion, corporate, motion pictures (film), broadcast TV creating graphics and editing projects, programmes, videos and film for Discovery Channel, Sky, Animal Planet, and Google. I've also worked on major projects such as a majorly succesful global advertising campaign for FitBit Versa, and worked with world leading production and post-production agencies such as ENVY post production and WAG Entertainment.

• Over the years I have created designs and edited for brands such as Chanel, Mars, GSK, M&S, Kelloggs, Hilton, VICHI, Wagamama whilst working with global marketing firms such as Saatchi and Saatchi and Conran Design Group.

• My specialities are working in After Effects with multiple varying techniques from motion tracking, to 2D vector animations, animating text, creating explainer videos, video manipulation and VFX and much more. With video and film editing, I am specialised in professional documentary editing, film editing, corporate editing and short form internet video (social media) video editing.

Outside of work I am an avid movie buff who enjoys a visit to the BFI cinema to catch an old classic flick (even as a child I loved watching old black and white films). Also, having grown up in Scotland I have an affection for the outdoors and being in the wild and will take any chance to go and visit the highlands!

I enjoy meeting and networking with like-minded people so please reach out if you would like to talk to me about motion design, editing or film!

LEILA'S VIOLIN SEP 2019 - MAR 2020 | Film Editor and Motion Graphic Designer
Approached by the well-known Hollywood film composer, Ella Leya and asked to help with the post-production to her directorial debut film 'Leila's Violin' starring Sofia Rosinsky and Sabina Rakcheyeva. I worked for a few months refining the edit to get it into the final shape. I also created a number of visual effects for the film from fire sequences to general rotoscoping and much more.

Leila's Violin is a short cultural film with music as a central theme and a story about a young girl who wants to learn how to play Violin and travels from Los Angeles to Azerbaijan in search of her late mother who was a violinist. The film is currently in the festival circuit application process.

WAG ENTERTAINMENT SEP 2018 - NOV 2019 | Motion Graphic Designer
A long contract to design, create, build and animate the graphics for the entire series of 'How Do Animals Do That'. I was brought in at the early stages to help with the development of the series graphic styling which included everything from the typography, layout, look and feel, to the programme idents, logo and all component parts to the graphics.

'How Do Animals Do That' is an edgy, new exciting series very bold and daring in its' ambitions and scale. It is a family orientated fun documentary series explaining the every day wonderings that ordinary people have about how things work in the animal kingdom. It was first broadcast on January 6th on the Animal Planet, and is running for 40 Episodes, 34 of which I have worked on entirely creating the graphics for.

THE UNSEEN SEP 2017 - NOV 2017 | Trailer Film Editor and VFX Artist
I was brought into this project by the director of the film Gary Sinyor to help with editing the trailer. I re-cut and restructured it. I also added visual effects to the trailer which worked so well that they became the visual effects styling for the story driven graphics throughout the whole film. The visual effects that I created were showing the POV of a woman suffering from blackouts and dizziness.

The Unseen was premiered at the Vue Piccadilly in December 2017 and is available on Sky Cinema and Amazon. A great film!

ENVY POST PRODUCTION MAR 2017 - MAY 2017
Video editing and After Effects work on Adverts for FITBIT. A 8 week contract to edit various parts of the adverts that needed updating as well as creating multiple foreign language versions for global release around the world different markets including Spain, Germany, UK, France, China, Latin America, USA and Canada, Korea and Japan. During the period at Envy I also helped out in ad hoc editing and After Effects job for various broadcasts.

THE BOXER FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE 2010 - 2012 | Editor, Producer and Director
The Boxer from Somewhere Else is a feature documentary film about the life and career of Ken Buchanan, the 1970-71 undisputed world lightweight champion boxer. It is built upon a feature length in-depth interview with Buchanan filmed by myself, in which he goes into great detail talking about his career and his life revealing insights, which have never been revealed publicly before. This explosive interview comprises the main narrative of the story, and is accompanied by archive footage, images, newspaper articles from the time and other media.

In addition to the interview, I also spent one year with Buchanan following him around with a camera and filming fly-on-the-wall documentary style scenes to give additional flavor to the film. These scenes are intercut into the documentary. I decided to make the film after reading Buchanan's autobiography and becoming fascinated by such an incredible story as the boxer's journey through life, his ups and downs. And the many unanswered questions that remain to this day about why certain events happened in the way that they did.

The film was sponsored by KPMG who organised a screening at the Traverse theatre in Edinburgh in March 2012 and is currently seeking distribution.

MERCHANTCANTOS JUN 2009 - JUL 2012 | Editor and Camera Operator
After the business merged with Merchant, I continued on working in the production department and took on my main role in post-production with the majority of the time spent editing and doing various motion graphics.

LUCINDA SIEGER - I BELIEVE MAY 2011 | Camera Operator, Video Producer, Video Editor
In my own time whilst at MerchantCantos, this was a video interview and mini doc feature that I filmed and edited for the singer Lucinda Seiger to promote the release of her album 'I Believe' in Japan in 2011.

CANTOS COMMUNICATIONS 2008 -2009 | Video Editor & Librarian
First promotion. This was my recognition as an editor officially although I had been editing all year on various projects. The librarian title was to reflect the enormous undertaking of a project to catalogue a collection of over 6,000 DVCAM tapes into a library system, which was carried out in allocated time.

CANTOS COMMUNICATIONS 2007 -2008 | Production Runner
First job out of film school after returning from New York City and moving to London. Within weeks editing in Final Cut Pro on a daily basis.
