Independent Filmmaker

I have been a filmmaker since 2009, making documentaries, news-pieces, showreels, promos, as well as live and studio event recordings. I have produced material for a wide range of clients, including the The Fitzwilliam Museum, The Arcola Theatre, UNICEF, Glastonbury Festival, Battersea Arts Centre, The Novak Djokovic Foundation, The National Citizen Service, BBC Radio 6 Music, Portsmouth Festival and Cambridge University.

In 2017 I completed my first major documentary with filmmaker Linda Mason, Ghost Towns, which used long takes to explore the abandoned towns and farmsteads on the Canadian Prairies. The film was exhibited at a number of festivals in 2017, including Sheffield Doc/Fest. Since 2014 I have also collaborated with an associate professor in theatre, Dr Teresa Murjas, on a several research projects. These have included a museum installation on World War One trench art (which has exhibited at Reading Museum and The Minories Gallery in Colchester) and an online resource that explores The Museum of Rural Life's World War Two evacuee archive. We are currently undertaking a new project on the theme of intangible cultural heritage, which will integrate Go Pro cameras and 360 technology. What unites these is my ongoing interest in how film style - especially long takes and camera movement - engenders tangible, multi-sensory experiences.

Internal TV Producer at HM Prison Holloway

I taught inmates and co-managed the prison's internal television channel, which was broadcast in every cell. This involved working with inmates to commission and produce content for the channel. The classes had a practical focus in which I taught essential production skills, including concept-development, camera operation and editing. As a department we worked with several external organisations such as Clean Break, to facilitate students progression towards professional practice.

Sessional Lecturer at the University of Reading

I taught undergraduates and postgraduates on a Film and Theatre BA and Film MA. On the BA programme I taught Introduction to Film, Critical Practice (where students combined practice with theory), Representing Conflict on Stage and Screen, in addition to supervising a number of students on their practical projects. I also taught on the department's revamped MA film course, supervising students on a video-essay module. Here, I helped co-design the module with the intention of developing students conceptual insights through harnessing post-production skills.
