David Coleman

I joined the BBC as an electrical engineer. Following a period as a Radio 4 announcer, I became a director with BBC TELEVISION NEWS. Since then I have directed a wide variety of programmes from children's TV to game shows to BBC PROM CONCERTS and in 2011 WILLIAM & KATE'S WEDDING at WESTMINSTER ABBEY.

Political programming includes 7 series of QUESTION TIME (for which I was also the audience warm-up), THE [very] FIRST LEADERS' DEBATE in 2010, Channel 4's ALTERNATIVE ELECTION in 2015 & 2017 and many more debates and results programmes for all the networks for many UK Elections.

In the last few years I have been the lead TV director for NATO, G7 AND COP26 conferences working closely with both the UK government and the UN.

I have produced documentary series including THE BIG RACE for ITV - the story, in 7 episodes, of the journey of 6 cars and their drivers from London to New York - through Europe and Russia - the long way round.

Science & technology TV includes 6 series of the BBC's TOMORROW'S WORLD, and most recently TOMORROW'S WORLD LIVE (a TW re-union), 21 series of THE ROYAL INSTITUTION XMAS LECTURES, a live birth and several anatomy series and films. ANATOMY FOR BEGINNERS with Gunther von Hagens and DON'T PANIC - the story of our population growth with Prof. Hans Rosling both won RTS AWARDS. and STARGAZING

I have made films and directed studios and outside broadcasts in 30 countries and through the BBC have run production training courses in Bangladesh, Kenya, Tunisia, Jordan and at the NFTS. I now teach live TV at London Metropolitan University.

I direct some modest theatre productions and have written two musical parodies, one of which has been performed in the UK, South Africa, Australia and the USA and is doing much better than expected on YouTube.
