You'll be joining a growing video team at an exciting time of expansion and development, with an ambition to create best-in-class video content across multiple digital platforms.
About you:

You're an experienced video creator and news editor with a broad range of general knowledge. You've been working in newsrooms for several years sourcing, producing, editing and delivering timely, engaging news video content which drives views and increases engagement.
An exceptional, imaginative short-form storyteller with an eye for detail, you know how to get to the crux of a story, fast. You're well-practised at making sound editorial and legal decisions under pressure, and you know how and when to refer those decisions upwards.
You know how to lead a team and coach video journalists to deliver their best work, and you're comfortable liaising with colleagues across the newsroom to coordinate publishing for maximum impact. You're highly organised and are always thinking several steps ahead.

Job purpose:
A Video News Editor is needed to drive the execution of video strategies in Evening Standard news verticals. This role oversees a small team of video journalists in our central London newsroom. Working closely with our data science teams and senior editorial manager you will grow audiences and increase video views in a 24/7 environment.

This is a hands-on role in an exciting area of growth for us

Key responsibilities and accountabilities - What is delivered:
? Drive growth of video views & engagement in our digital news verticals
? Source powerful video content which will drive traffic
? Commission, edit and publish video content in news-led verticals for standard.co.uk plus owned-and-operated platforms
? Oversee, mentor and develop video journalists in the creation of news video content, ensuring timely production and accurate delivery in a fast-paced news cycle
? Write and copy-edit pithy captions for news video
? Communicate clearly and regularly with editorial staff across the newsroom
? Contribute to forward planning for news video production
? Monitor and use video analytics to make informed editorial decisions


Skills and experience:
? 5+ years in digital newsrooms creating news video content
? Relevant qualifications in journalism, video production, or similar
? Proven experience using data analytics to inform editorial decisions
? Comprehensive understanding of media law and journalistic principles
? Proven experience making legal decisions around use of video content
? Editing on Adobe Premiere and CC apps
? Excellent writing and copy-editing skills
? Experience publishing to digital platforms via content management systems
? A broad understanding of the news agenda with evidence of working on high-profile breaking news stories
? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
