Video Editor

Notting Hill

Crafty Counsel is a fast-growing start-up, making innovative online video content for lawyers. We are bringing creative flair and fun to the legal industry, which is more usually known as somewhat stuffy.

We're on the hunt for an ambitious editor to join our small team on an initial three month full-time freelance contract. We're offering a £150 day rate, which equates to between £3,000 - £3,450 per month.

ABOUT CRAFTY COUNSEL

Launched in late 2017, Crafty Counsel is an online video channel for lawyers working in-house in companies. Our ambition is to truly own the intersection of business law and video.

We currently focus on bite-sized learning and development content, such as panels and interviews with leading legal industry figures, which are usually five to ten minutes long. We also regularly deliver event coverage of legal conferences and meet-ups.

We have an informal style and are experimenting with new formats and content ideas to reflect that, so you'd be joining at the perfect time to help us sharpen up our creative identity. While our bread and butter consists of short interviews and panels, we've made experiments in the past with spoof video and VR and may well look to build on those or other unconventional learning formats in future.

We are launching a premium / paywall subscription service in autumn 2019, and are currently filming content for this. We will also continue to publish freely available sponsored content (branded Crafty Counsel) on our website and social media channels.

The team currently consists of two permanent employees and is supported by an intern. The creative side is currently executed through a network of excellent freelance videographers, editors and related professionals, plus a Creative Consultant who was extensively involved at the outset of the company and is now involved on an ad hoc basis. The company is led by Ben White, a former lawyer, and the business is backed by a group of private angel investors.

The business is accelerating quickly and we've made a lot of noise in the legal industry in a short space of time. We are now well placed to grow quickly in the coming months but will need the support of a video editor to address our current flow of content, and also to help transition the company from primarily a buyer of video services to a production house in our own right. Your role will be instrumental in helping us make that transition.

CORE REQUIREMENTS

- You have the experience to take on all editorial responsibilities for Crafty Counsel for the future content we shoot. You will also be required to edit some material which we have already filmed. We anticipate you will be editing using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects and can demonstrate speed, efficiency and creative flair.

- You have the vision and ability to develop a Crafty Counsel signature style for our premium / subscription content.

- You are skilled at managing your own workflow to meet client and internal deadlines. This means understanding how long each editing project will take and communicating that clearly with the team so we can build that into client communication and proposals.

- You are a good communicator and will be able to work seamlessly with all team members and freelancers as required.

- You'll have had sufficient professional experience in video agencies or similar to be able to make sensible recommendations on kit that we may wish to purchase and other aspects of the business, and will add value to our team by bringing the benefit of your industry experience.

- Optional: You have camera experience and can occasionally support on filming days as a second or third camera operator.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

As a given, you'll have professional experience of the Adobe Creative Suite. You'll have access to your own licence to the Adobe Creative Suite and the equipment necessary to deliver on your editing responsibilities. Ideally you'll be able to edit on a laptop and thus work alongside us in our office in Notting Hill, London.

You'll also be knowledge about the different editing kit available and be able to recommend kit which we may like to invest in, in the future.
A "can-do" attitude will be absolutely key. We're still very much a start-up and are learning as we go. Patience and a sense of humour are a must! We know that we don't have all the infrastructure or processes of a larger video production house, but we want to learn and want to bring on board someone who can help us make the appropriate next steps.

Overall, you'll be excited by the opportunity to join a fast-moving company at a critical point in its journey. You'll be excited by the opportunity to put your own signature style on our content and developing creative ideas for the company as we grow.
While the role is advertised as a three month freelance role, there will be an opportunity to discuss future opportunities at the end of the contract.
