Job Introduction
Children's In House Productions is the award-winning production arm of the UK's foremost kids' broadcaster, BBC Children's. The acclaimed In House unit, with production bases in Salford and Glasgow, produces content across all genres for 0 to 12.

We are currently looking for a Unit Manager to join our InHouse Productions team for up to 3 months starting ASAP based in MediaCityUK, Salford (with some remote working due to COVID-19).

The Unit Manager provides strategic production management for a portfolio of content from idea through to delivery and distribution. The Unit Manager will report to three Production Executives across Factual and Entertainment, Comedy and Pre-School productions within BBC Children's In House Productions.

Main Responsibilities
To work closely with the Production Execs (PEs) and editorial colleagues to manage the day to day operations of the unit and help to ensure the achievement of objectives, leading on some and working collaboratively on others to shape and deliver output.
To provide efficient day to day management, dealing with issues such as staffing and operational matters, Health & Safety issues, Business Continuity, financial authorisation, training and leave authorisation. This will include deputising for the PEs on Business Continuity.
To be responsible for and effectively lead the production management staff and programme budgets for Pre-School, Factual and Entertainment productions.
To manage the progress and financial reporting of the Pre-School, Factual & Entertainment slate and liaising with the production accountants on the financial management of the individual productions and CBBC development.
To ensure accurate budgeting & scheduling at development stage ensuring realistic budgets, staff plans and schedules are pitched and proposed.
Implement and manage the strategic planning of production staff, ensuring the efficient scheduling, movement and developmental opportunities. To help manage the training requirements and create bespoke training as require and in conjunction with the Talent team.
Are you the right candidate?
Demonstrable experience of working productively and collaboratively within diverse production teams.
Thorough knowledge of commissioning and green light procedures in order to lead and manage the processes, ensuring resources and editorial aspirations are aligned.
Demonstrates team leadership skills - able to lead and motivate teams.
Advanced project management skills: proven experience of delivering complex projects; experience of trouble-shooting key projects.
Sound business and finance skills - ability to create, forecast and manage significant production resources and budgets. Able to interpret an editorial brief, explain commissioning requirements and suggest ideas for maximising the value from productions.
Experience working across multiple genres.
This role requires a relevant DBS to be undertaken by the BBC at the appropriate level, at the point of offer of a contract of employment.
