Trainee Lighting Technician
Full time Trainee Lighting Technician (apprentice) reporting to The Head Lighting Technician, you will be assisting the Head Lighting Technician with all aspects of Film and Television Lighting within a studio setting during which time you will be constantly trained up yourself to the level of a Senior Lighting Technician. General responsibilities would include organising the lighting kit room and lighting kit, painting the studio cycloramas for shoots, setting up the lighting equipment for shoots, advising clients on effective lighting solutions, organising the three studios in preparation for different shoots, helping the head lighting technician on larger shoots, learning how to repair lights and electrical equipment, possibly some small amount of lighting on location, and learning all aspects of becoming an excellent Senior Lighting Technician and Gaffer.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Very Positive / Can-do Attitude.
- Methodical and effective problem solving abilities, able to consistently find solutions to technical problems within any discipline or area of work.
- A passion and ability in all or some of the following: Film Making, Mechanics, Electronics, Science, Design Technology, Electrical Engineering, Art, Film Lighting.
- Exceptionally organised and a proactive hardworker constantly working under own initiative and innovating to improve the organisation of the lighting kitroom and the studio spaces.
- A quick learner, hugely driven and self directed, Able to quickly ascertain which work activity is the most useful and urgent for the lighting department, and able to implement it independently, and immediately.
- Good legible written English skills.
- An individual whose first goal is to become an exceptional professional Film and Television Gaffer over the next two years.
- A Basic knowledge of Film Lighting and Filming Equipment.
- Hardworking with a good level of physical fitness and stamina. As film shoots can sometimes run for long periods of time the applicant must be fit and able to sustain long periods of physical exertion. The applicant must have an interest in improving their physical strength and endurance.
- A Good listener able to learn and take criticism objectively, and who is able to make thoughtful improvements to their working method.
- A passion for film making, the visual arts, and lighting techniques for film and video.
- Great attention to detail with thoughtful rationale behind decisions.
- Calm under pressure with very strong communications skills.
Salary 20K per year.
