Studio Servicing Technician

London

UK Operations is at the heart of BBC News' creative technical and production capability. We are responsible for gathering all the news on location across all platforms, as well as all news studios at NBH and Millbank in London and at MediaCity in Salford.

Our teams support programme output across TV, radio, and online. We work with a wide range of News output including, in Television, the 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock News, Newsnight, Andrew Marr BBC World, Persian TV, and Arabic TV. We support a range of news programmes across network and World Service radio, including Today, PM, Sports, World Service English and Language Service programming.

Role Responsibility

Under the direction of the Studio Servicing Supervisor, you will be responsible for the full range of electrical and scenic services across News (in the TV studios and/or on location). Working with the wider studio operational team, to ensure the most effective use of TV studio, technical and craft facilities to meet customer requirements.

Are you the right candidate?

The successful candidate must have a fully apprenticed electrician qualification to City and Guilds 236 Part 2 or equivalent and hold a certification in the current edition of Institute of Electrical Engineers Regulations. You will need to have a thorough understanding of the Electricity at Work Regulations along with proven experience of installing, maintaining, repairing, refurbishing and testing broadcast and non-broadcast electrical equipment, including the inspection, testing and recording of results according to BBC and statutory regulations in respect of Health and Safety, Electricity at Work and the current Edition of the IEE regulations.

The following requirements are also essential:

A good understanding of TV studio lighting control systems, i.e. DMX systems.
Experience of the range of techniques associated with the movement, setting and striking of scenery and the dressing of sets.
Experience of providing cross craft support to TV Studio operational team(s), which includes interpreting implementing rigging and lighting plots to meet programme and operational requirements.
Experience of providing support to craft teams with simple craft tasks.
You will also have the ability to work flexibly with a willingness to learn new skills and able to work well in a team. You will also have the ability to work calmly under live studio conditions, anticipating changing requirements.
