Studio and Location Camera Operator (With Steadicam Experience)

Westminster

Camera/Steadicam Operator produces required shots by combining the use of complex technology with creative visual skills either in the studio using camera peds or on location using PSC/Steadicam rigs.

He or she will be expected to liaise with directors, producers and camera supervisor and must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure.

Camera operator will be responsible for looking after the camera equipment and studio floor as well as on location. He or she will be expected to problem solve and be proactive in achieving objectives with limited resources.

He or she will be able to maintain personal effectiveness in the times of pressure, setbacks or when dealing with tough situations. The job can be stressful and physically tiring and demanding, often requiring travel between locations and work in different weather conditions. He or she is required to be able to handle heavy camera equipment, and studio furniture where needed.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Working closely with other camera operators to achieve desired shots
• To communicate effectively with the directors, producers, camera supervisor and gallery team
• Assembling, preparing, testing and setting up equipment prior to filming/recording
• Offering advice on how best to shoot and explaining the visual impact created by particular shots;
• practising the camera moves required for pre-arranged shots;
• finding solutions to technical or other practical problems (for an outside broadcast or ENG shoot, for example, the natural light conditions need to be taken into account when setting up shots);
• being prepared to innovate and experiment with ideas;
• working quickly, especially as timing is such an important factor;
• taking sole responsibility in situations where only one camera operator is involved in the filming;
• keeping up to date with filming methods and equipment
• Practicing shots and attending trainings when required
• Repairing and maintaining equipment
• Looking after studio floor (cleaning studio floor and cameras)
• Demonstrating a good awareness of health and safety issues
• Changing studio furniture for different shows and programmes
• Oftentimes he or she will be required to work different hours than usual
