Sport and Network Content Producer

Leeds

Department: Channels (Central - Leeds) | Reporting to: Deputy Head of Channels

Summary:
Local TV, the UK's leading city TV network, is on the look-out for a sharp, talented and multi-skilled journalist to join the busy central Channels team that's charged with planning, commissioning, producing and quality controlling output on-air and online 365 days a year. An editorial role at its core with a heavy focus on sport, this job is perfect for relatively new entrants to the industry who want to hit the ground running in the fast-paced, challenging and rewarding world of local TV. Centrally curating and producing sport, news and information content that really matters to local people in our eight regions, you'll work with colleagues across the business, supporting city teams and the Channels department centrally - which comprises the crucial Editorial, Digital and Broadcast teams that get our great content in front of millions!

Main Purpose of the Job:
The Local TV network outputs hours of original news, information and entertainment content each and every day. The Sport and Network Content Producer role is split into two main areas - the first and primary focus being the sourcing, curation and production of local sports content for all of our areas. A football expert, the SNCP will source contributed user generated content (UGC) from local sports fans, player interviews and press conferences from our partners, and more local sports video - turning it all into short-form, cross-platform content. The SNCP will also work closely with newsgathering teams centrally and in the local cities to help plan for and produce special coverage of major sporting events and regular match analysis following games, and cultivate relationships with key sports stakeholders in all of our areas.

The second significant part of the SNCP's role centres around network newsgathering and information, working on a rolling rota with other members of the central Channels and Editorial team to help plan and produce network-level, shareable content. Daily this ranges from live or as-live local Traffic & Travel bulletins broadcast every fifteen minutes in our breakfast programming, to sourcing, writing, presenting and editing the National Headlines shown across all channels. Throughout the week there's also requirements for networked national weather forecasts, box office reviews and special reports ranging from serious political stories to softer "what's trending" pieces.
Crucial to the role is a driven, ambitious and creative attitude and the technical and editorial skills necessary to deliver on that ambition. Every member of the editorial team at Local TV are multi-skilled reporters - able to newsgather, report, shoot, edit and produce video stories that are broadcast compliant, legally sound and always fulfilling our broad editorial aim to reflect life as it's lived in our amazing cities and regions.
Your nose for a good story will be imperative in finding the best ideas and content with "viral potential" or mass appeal (especially sport). To this end, you'll work closely within the Digital Team to help repackage our great TV content for social media.

About Local TV Ltd.:
Reaching more than 4 million viewers a month on Freeview, Sky and Virgin Media - Local TV (until recently Made Television) has grown dramatically in its 4.5 years on-air as the premier local broadcaster in the UK. Now on air in eight key cities and regions in England and Wales (Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, North Wales, Teesside and Tyne & Wear), we're breaking new ground both on-air and in the digital space. With a recent overhaul of programming, the development of the Local Live format of "rolling localness" and an ongoing rebrand, now is a really exciting time to join the team - you're sure to be busy!

Key Skills and Requirements:
? A BJTC/NCTJ or equivalent journalistic qualification, with at least some newsroom experience.
? Sound working knowledge of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and current copyright and media law, and great attention to detail.
? A strong sporting knowledge - especially in football - and experience in producing video sport content for multiple platforms. A network of sports journalism contacts and sources would be useful too.
? Proven experience in non-linear editing in crafting a narrative through video. Ideally you'll have edited using Adobe Premiere Pro previously.
? You should be a social media native, aware of current news talking points, the latest viral videos and understanding of why these things are trending and how they might be replicated.
? An ability to juggle multiple tasks and manage workload and priorities effectively.
? Great communication skills and an enthusiastic, keen and respectful attitude (just like everyone in our team!)

To apply please submit a cover letter outlining how you'll be the perfect fit for the role outlined above, as well as your CV and links to past work as soon as possible, but before Monday 10th June at 23:59.
