EastEnders is the multi award winning soap broadcast four times a week on BBC ONE. It currently ranks as one of the most watched TV dramas in the UK tackling many controversial and taboo issues previously unseen on television in the UK. Through great writing and attention to detail the show manages to successfully balance gritty realism with high drama and entertainment to keep its millions of dedicated viewers coming back for more, on-screen and on-line, every week.

Main Responsibilities
The Production Designer is responsible for the overall design budget and line management of design teams and the design and look of EastEnders, whilst liaising with other Heads of department to facilitate the smooth production and delivery programmes.
Your duties will include:-
Work with Producers to create an overview of the design of the programmes
Set and execute a fiscal plan, considering headcount and workforce planning to achieve production goals, editorial and creative vision within assigned budget
Manage the overall design budget and keep the Line Producer and Production Accountant abreast of costs with regular budget updates
Manage, lead and develop a large, diverse high performing Design Team and Department
Be responsible for creating a positive working environment for colleagues from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences
Oversee the design, cost and build of new sets
Liaise with Production Managers to plan any specific requirements to facilitate efficient scheduling or any particular needs and requirements for the team
Liaising with external companies as required in line with BBC Policies
Other duties as reasonably required by your line manager
Overall responsibility for the maintenance and improvement of existing sets in continuing series and backlot areas within the studios
Responsibility for the recruitment of all design personnel, scheduling of the teams and ensure appropriate scheduling of working time leave
Manage training within the department such as manual handling, Safe Construction and design, food hygiene and other health and safety courses
Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following;
Experience as a Series Designer or Production Designer
A wide-ranging knowledge of television production processes with a demonstratable and thorough understanding of continuing drama and the jobs roles and resource personnel engaged to complete the production
Effective negotiating and management skills
Demonstratable experience of leading and motivating large multicamera teams
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate with colleagues and to foster effective working relationships with a wide range of production and non-production personnel, internal and external to the BBC
The ability to clearly communicate vision and goals which inspire and generate innovative ideas and approaches to translate these into practical realities within varying and often tight time frames
Thorough knowledge of health and safety protocols and qualified in risk assessment
Valid driving licence
