Senior Technical Supervisor

London

The role of the Senior Technical Supervisor is to work across a broad range of Technical Production areas across Sky, as the most senior technical person in these areas. As part of the Studios Technical Management department, this role will significantly contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of all the technical functions that service the requirements of all Sky and some third-party channels, using the resources of Sky Production Services.
Technical Production Lead
- Co-ordinate specified productions through production pre- planning stages, ensuring prompt communication flow, so that the client and crew have all necessary information.
- Technical lead across all crafts on studio days, managing any changes or problems that occur
- Contribute and manage production evaluation, reviewing each production on conclusion, suggesting and implementing improvements, mitigating future risks and more efficient ways of working
- Technically manage all specified productions within studios, coordinating and leading through all stages of production
- Track the progress of specified productions and ensure availability of all required information and documentation across all crafts
- Provide all required local knowledge and supervision to all crafts and clients as required and actively manage crew conduct on production days, ensuring it is in line with the values and visions of Sky Production Service
- Work with the team to constantly update equipment, processes and provide creative ideas and solutions to enhance productions and the client experience whilst demonstrating an extensive knowledge of client technical production briefs and requirements
- Assist to technically interpret and realise the Director's/Producer's vision logistically
Technical Support
- Provide 2nd line technical support across all production areas ensuring productions are not impacted
- Attend any required technical meetings
- Regularly review and improve the technologies used and technical practices
- Liaise with other departments ensuring issues are corrected
- Proactively assist in managing technical facilities and equipment
Operational/Technical
- On the day production technical ownership, facilitating successful production completion, guaranteeing all client requirements are met across all crafts
- Main point of contact for all technical aspects of production on studio days, managing any changes or problems that occur
- Routing of internal and external sources as well as liaison with other technical areas
- Provide training to members of the technical crew when needed
- Responsible for the technical quality of the signal being recorded or broadcast (use various measuring devices and displays to ensure quality control)
- Vision Control duties - matching the exposure and colour balance of the cameras ("Racking")
- To maintain and develop appropriate comprehensive technical documentation
- Responsible for floor vision monitoring, in vision monitoring, projection systems, vision signal path management and first line maintenance procedures and escalation.
- Liaise with all crafts to ensure the optimum standard of production is achieved
- Provide 1st line technical support acting as the key point of contact for incidents affecting studio operations across all crafts and escalating as necessary
Reporting
- Following each production, generate a technical de-brief across all crafts, suggesting improvements as well as mitigating future risks to delivery
- Generate other reports and de-briefs as required
You'll have:
- Excellent communication and be able to demonstrate resilience under pressure - as well as be capable of liaising at all levels of the business
- Well informed and up to date knowledge on broadcast developments and production processes as well as technical equipment
- A comprehensive understanding of all aspect's technical studio processes and equipment in a production environment
- A proven track record of on production leadership within a Broadcaster or other large-scale television/film production environment
- A practical understanding of all related disciplines in live and studio TV production
- The ability to step into any studio environment on events and issues affecting technical operations
- Strong organisational, leadership and client facing skills
