Senior Producer

London

The Senior Producer is a key member of the digital team, sitting on the frontline between our journalism and our audience. Decisions taken by members of this team - headlines, push notifications, picture choices, homepage treatments - are crucial to ensuring our stories have the maximum impact. CNN's digital journalism stands or falls on the quality of these programming choices.

At CNN, programmers are far more than traditional homepage editors. They combine an instinctive flair for writing snappy headlines with a desire to dive deep into the data that can inform longer-term programming decisions. They handle breaking news stories of global impact, assessing conflicting information and prioritizing a deluge of content. They devise programming strategies for planned news events with challenging logistics. And they routinely manage straightforward A/B tests of everything from headlines to homepage layouts.

As Senior Producer, you will manage CNN's international digital platforms with a particular emphasis on mobile. You will be an expert in using live data to optimize CNN's content for its audience across all platforms and ensure CNN digital's daily output reflects the broad range of the news agenda, meeting the demands of our audience.

What you'll be doing:
Programming CNN International's digital platforms on mobile, app and desktop, according to the day's editorial priorities
Using real-time, hourly and daily data to ensure maximum reach and impact
Managing multiple platforms simultaneously, with a particular focus on mobile programming
Writing accurate and engaging push and banner alerts, using data to consistently improve the quality of notifications
Writing clever and catchy headlines, imaginative teases and selects impactful images
Working with CNN Newsgathering and digital content teams to ensure comprehensive and timely coverage of the daily news agenda
Working with key verticals to ensure the successful delivery of commercial targets
Liaising with programming teams around the globe, ensuring seamless handovers and co-ordinated coverage
Deputizing for the Head of Programming when required

What we're looking for:

Essential Criteria:
Solid newsroom experience, preferably in international news
Significant experience in breaking news
Broad understanding of the digital media landscape and audience needs
Familiar with other news organisations, constantly holding CNN up against direct competitors

Excellent written and spoken English
Gift for powerful headlines, creative writing and visual impact
Highly organized and adapts well to changes at work

Desirable Criteria:
Prior management experience

What's on offer:

As Senior Producer, you will have the opportunity to work for a world-leading news organisation. As you might expect, this comes with a competitive salary and a wide range of benefits and perks, including private medical and a generous pension contribution. The role is also eligible for company bonus and on top of this, you'll have access to regular in-house screenings, wellbeing and fitness programs and events.
