Senior Producer

London

The Senior Producer - Planning is divided into two categories:

The Senior Producer - Planning (Regional) is responsible for developing and implementing plans, and working with relevant field teams, for a specific region of the world, as assigned by the Head of Planning. Their role is to gather information for developing news content; through contacting reporters, interviewing people, researching news resources and mobilizing teams to shoot stories within the designated region.

The Senior Producer - Planning (Next-Day Global) is responsible for pulling together the network's news coverage plan for the next 24 hours.

Key Responsibilities and Accountability:

Help shape the editorial agenda to which they have been assigned
Work closely with relevant regional bureaus on content ideas
Participate in the editorial meetings, and where needed present the daily and weekly prospects
Keep across all relevant diaries, agency outlooks and other forward-planning tools, and ensure teams are accredited for upcoming events in a timely fashion
Ensure entries on network prospects/newlogs adhere to house style
Interact as needed with other departments within the News division to ensure joined up coverage plans which include -where required - input from Creative, Output and Interview Producers
Ensure -in coordination with Bureau Producers - that cost estimations and all other logistical arrangements including travel plans for deployments are submitted in a timely fashion
As required, take on assignments for coordinating special coverage, which -if the coverage is global in nature -may include coordination with bureaus and planning desks outside of assigned region
Understand how their assigned region fits into Al Jazeera's global planning
Liaise closely with the daily and weekly planning desks in Doha
In coordination with the Executive Producer of News-gathering for the region to which they have been assigned, manage and help set the forward-planning editorial agenda for that region
Work closely with all bureaus to help them shape their editorial plans, and ensure these fit into the overall network planning
Take overall planning responsibility for stories and coverage plans in and across the assigned region
Assign and commission stories as required, provide feedback to bureaus on story treatments following consultation with Regional EP and with Doha
Compile and present the weekly regional prospects, and - with the support of the Planning Producer - implement changes, amendments and additions to the plan as required
Liaise and work closely with the relevant News-desk to ensure there is a consistently good workflow and communication between the team running the on-the-day news agenda and the regional planning desk
Within AJ Network approved policy, approve Cost Estimations for stories and escalate for higher approval as required
Work closely with other AJMN departments where required for assignments/deployments, including Operations and Finance
Where relevant, and in coordination with the EP, develop and maintain network of freelance stringers/producers/reporters in countries/cities where there is no Al Jazeera bureau presence
As required, help with annual evaluations/appraisals of any relevant member of staff, as assigned to them by - and following discussion with - the EP

Job Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Bachelor Degree in Journalism, Media, Communication or other related fields.
Minimum 7 years of professional experience for the Sr. Planning Producer in TV news or related fields.
