Senior News Editor

The Senior News Editor manages the news desk, including story, asset and resource management. They ensure the quality, speed and accuracy of our storytelling and that the network goals and planning around a news story are reflected in its treatment.
Serving as editorial gatekeeper for the network, you'll be ensuring integrity by giving attention to all elements of a story, words, information, facts and data for all platforms, including Digital and Social execution.In this role, you may be required to work rotated evening and weekend shifts, and to travel internationally on occasion.

What you'll be doing:
Assigning resources to stories and ensuring clear assignment communication to the field.
Intelligently and responsively assigning Newsdesk Producers and Researchers to the appropriate teams in the field.
Ensuring appropriate staffing levels for your shifts around breaking news stories: assessing and managing hours worked in the field by teams and supporting as appropriate,
Working alongside other Senior News Editors around the globe to ensure all assignments are covered, and with field and desk teams to deliver multi-platform coverage.
Giving regular feedback to Newsdesk Producers, Researchers and Field Producers, as well as mentoring desk employees formally and informally.
Communicating urgent messages and alerts to all platforms, liaising with the control rooms and Digital Supervisors on matters of importance and breaking news.
Managing spending by making decisions about story assignments and resources based on the budget allocated
What we're looking for:
Essential Criteria:
Significant prior experience in television or digital journalism
Strong leadership skills, with proven experience directing or managing others
Digital and Social proficiency
Skilled editor - linear and digital
Demonstrable understanding of international media law
Strong technical and logistical skills relating to both TV and Digital
Excellent understanding of international affairs
Fast, succinct and accurate written communication skills, as well as excellent verbal communication and people skills
Collaborative, innovative and creative
Flexible and able to operate in a fast-changing environment with sound judgement
Desirable Criteria:
Previous work experience abroad in international journalism
Fluent in a second language
Professional journalism training, or equivalent experience
